Hehehe, seems like FRED is starting to air the dirty laundry - the Martin Wallace fanboys wont like this...

The whole issue reminds me of this old joke:

A man sees his doctor, he says: "Every part of my body aches! When I touch my head, it hurts, when I touch my stomach, it hurts, when I touch my breast, it hurts, when I touch my leg, it hurts, when I touch my back, it hurts, ..." - The doctor responds: "Could it be that you broke your finger?"

The moral of the story is, if a man manages to get himself into trouble with three companies, it might actually not be the companies' fault. But BGG is so biased on this issue, it's unbelievable. It's always "one of us" versus "them", them of course being evil commie price-fixing companies with diabolic customer service and rip-off production values.

It's also a mystery to me why the thread was first moved to the rather remote publishers' forums and subsequently locked.

In other news, AGE OF STEAM is still a terrible game.

Yeah I got the scoop from when I talked to the FRED guys at Origins though it wasn't my place to say. They should have put it out there a lot earlier though. They've taken a lot of heat for price fixing (which I personally don't like), some earlier production problems (hopefully sorted out) and the Wallace thing. Hopefully they can pull through that mess and keep strong.

In other news, FRED is talking with Larry Elmore to see if they can use his art in in Launius' Defenders of the Realm. Elmore is the guy who did a bunch of Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms stuff

That would be amazing!
To me, Elmore's work is classic when it comes to fantasy paintings.

I'm not optomistic only because they could probably find other illustrators much cheaper but I do know that they have some affiliation with him so we'll see.

For what it's worth Elmore would catch my eye on a shelf of games. He may be worth the investment.

I'm curious why people care a whole lot either way about the Wallace/FRED thing. MrSkeletor put a cap on that thread though -- a very nice finish that points out just how absurd the whole thing is.

Sag.

Martin Wallace is not looking that squeaky anymore - even Christian Petersen dropped in with some previously unknown (or little known) facts on him as a warning to any BGG people stupid enough to get involved.

PS Looks like my Princes of the Renaissance will be worth a bit for quite some time yet :-)

All baggage about it's name aside, Age of Scheme is a pretty cool game. It plays well with 3 or 4.

So if I understand this correctly, and I probably don't, FRED is pissed that Martin Wallace sold a game that was almost exactly the same as Age Of Steam to Mayfair? And Wallace is pissed that FRED doesn't want him to re-sell the same design?

Meanwhile, look for Reiner Knizia's new game Pharoah in stores soon. It has the same theme and mechanics as a hundred of his other games, but a different publisher. ;-)
