I really hate promotions.
Mostly because people spend WAY too much time whining about promotions. Please take this thread over to BGG where it belongs.

If I get one, ok. If not I really don't care. But I have to agree that most people make then out to be the must have piece to play the game.

Pfffpht! If threads about plastic minis for Ameritrash games belongs on BGG, then there truly is nothing left here to discuss.
Personally I think it's cool that if FFG is offering a promo item, that it's an optional mini with a stats card, rather than just a card. They could've just offered yet-another-challenge monster, but instead some actual thought, creativity and expense went into this one. Very nice!

I THINK you will be able to buy him in a 4 pack soon - most likely because of the backlash I and others exibited.

That would be a nice alternative. I appreciate being able to either buy the various "add-ons" for Zooloretto as a set from Rio Grande Games, or download them individually from Michael Schacht's website and print up my own. I got my niece the game for Christmas, and she loves it, and I like being able to give her little "extras" for it (like the polar bear tile) for her birthday. And when a friend got big into Chrononaughts I was able to get the promo cards for a nominal postage fee from Looney Labs, which was nice. I like Flying Frog's approach too: either make the additions available as a small expansion, or make the promos identical in function to the regular game components with the only difference being alternate art. That helps lessen the "collector bug" too, yet still makes these nice things to give away.

Agin' em!
When I'm buying board games, I have the expectation that I will be able to go down to my FLGS and pick up any/all of the expansions or components for a specific game without having to jump through any hoops or fly across the continent to a convention.
