OGRE Question

OGRE Question was created by Space Ghost
I have the following for the OGRE system:

--G.E.V.; Also Michael was kind enough to send along the rules to Ogre. My understanding is that G.E.V. has everything needed to play Ogre -- is this correct?

--Shockwave

--Reinforcement Pack

--Scenario Book 1

Is this everything? Scenario Book 1 implies there is a Scenario Book 2 -- did they just not make it?

There is no Scenario Book 2.

You're backwards-compatible with Ogre, provided you have the Ogre map. Also, some of the rules are different — ramming versus over-runs are a prime example — but that's not insurmountable.

As for the rest, yes, you've got the "core" there. Other items include Ogre Miniatures, The Ogre Book, GURPS Ogre, etc., but you've got all the essential stuff.

I believe there's still a scan of the OGRE map over at BGG. I used it so I wouldn't have to cut my OGRE/GEV map.

The only "core" product you're lacking is the map pack. It was called "Battlelands," or "Battlefields," or something.

OGRE Battlefields , it's actually still in print.

Gah! I forgot all about Battlefields. If only there were some sort of boardgame database where such things could be researched.

Whoa, I'm late to this one (and still interested in PBEM- I got your file the other day Dr. M)...

The Reinforcement pack is funny. It's kind of like buying all the countersheets and maps from OGRE, GEV, and SHOCKWAVE all over again but without the OGRE map and none of the rules from those games. You did get a new sheet with some new scenarios and stuff on it though. I don't think it's essential unless you really want a TON of GEVs out there. If you've got the GEV rules (email me if you don't), you can pretty much play all the GEV stuff with BATTLEFIELDS alone.

The OGRE map is really the toughest part to get, it seems. You could probably pull it out of the Vassal module if you really had to get it. Hell, you could probably get a blank hexmap and draw the damn thing.

The Scenario Book can be bought as a PDF download at SJ Games for $5.

There's no Scenario Book 2, but there is also the OGRE Book. It's more neat than useful in game terms. It's got a bunch of essays and articles about the game, some of which are vintage SPACE GAMER material. Plenty of OGRE humour throughout. Not essential, but if you're an OGRE nut like me you'll want it.

Thanks for the response. I do need to get the OGRE map, and maybe the Battlefields expansion. The OGRE books sounds cool.

Michael -

If you get the PBEM thing going smoothly, I would be VERY INTERESTED in this.

I have just finished designing from scratch an OGRE map (exactly consistent with the original) and counters. The map prints out at 15" x 20". I am pleased with how the map looks when it is printed (better than it looks below). I will be uploading everything to the file section on TOS in the next few days (probably over the weekend -- i just need to check one of the colours I used for the ogre counters).

Here it is:

Over at TOS, I just uploaded images of the OGRE map and counters, and a file (pending approval) that contains PDFs of everything.

EDIT: i screwed up the counters (forgot to reverse the back!). will fix and re-post.
