I surfed F:AT a little but couldn't find any recent discussion about FFG/Nexus Age of Conan. I bought it, played it once, it went right to my trade list. My expectations may have been too high, but the game was a letdown. This could have been ANY strategy game, Conan and his world were all pasted on, the spaces on the map and the cards could have had any titles and it would still be a generic strategy game. The fate dice mechanic is pretty good, but again, generic. Conan's exploits being reduced to resource acquisition and endgame points for a completely unrelated kingdom was the biggest letdown. The game should have leaned more towards being a character-based game where Conan is knee-deep in gore or a more of an in-depth conquest game. Crowning Conan to win? Wouldn't that mean your king/kingdom lost since a barbarian usurped the throne?
I started reading Conan books around 1980 so maybe I was expecting too much. I didn't want a vanilla strategy game. Everyone I know personally likes the game, I'm in the minority where I live by not liking it. I'm in the minority on TOS by not liking it too. What doo the ATers think?
