10 Worst Actual Game Submissions

So I was flipping through the Game Inventor's Handbook for some light reading while on the can and found a list of "worst game submissions" from an unnamed industry insider. These are supposedly all real submissions - but the kicker is that a few of them don't sound half bad....

10. Regional Trivia of Iowa City (exactly what it sounds like)
9. International Politics ("Go Fish" with pictures of foreign dignitaries on the cards)
8. Star Empires (a quote from the game description: "Players need only know a small amount of simple calculus to accurately plot their ships' trajectories")
7. Serving Time (about serving a prison sentence)
6. Scratchers (a game that requires you to buy scratch-off tickets at the store to progress)
5. Terrorists Inc. (move around the board trying to kill as many people as possible)
4. The Game Game (Phase 1 - make up rules for a game. Phase 2 - play that game)
3. Dr. Love (players see how many women they can hook up with in a single night)
2. My Mother's Life (learn the fascinating story of the designer's mother)
1. Monopoly 2 (like Monopoly, but better!)

I'd actually play 7 and 3....

I am pretty sure someone has done #7, it is on the geek. It was home made, but looked pretty good. It's not this: www.gilliusinc.com/dropsoap.html

I am curious what the hell #8 is like inside the rulebook.

This is me, biting my tongue, and grinning.

Tongue staying firmly bitten. It is not professional of me to comment on this topic, but wow do people have some unique ideas. Boy, oh boy...

At the same time, no doubt.

Thaadd is trying to hold back and not reveal the time Fantasy Flight received Monin's BanMan: The Reckoning prototype. It was basically a variant on whack a mole with various F:AT regulars getting the ban stick.

I heard that even though Thaadd wasn't a big fan, Peterson was ready to publish it, but couldn't get the rights to half the avatars nor half the usernames, and was afraid everyone would be going Frank La Who?

The game was mechanically flawed since several of the moles would tend to not pop up again after some time.

Ooooh, Thaadd is taking game submissions?!?

Okay, check this out--my wrasslin' game from when I was in sixth grade.

1.) Make up a chart of moves by categorizing them into 20 categories of 10 moves each.
2.) Roll for initiative
3.) Roll the 20-sider and 10-sider to get the move to be performed.
4.) There are 3 20-sided status/damage result charts; depending on the grade of the move (either regular, marked with an asterisk, or marked with a plus sign). Apply damage.
5.) Low rolls could result in reversals, in which the initiative changes hands.
6.) Repeat until someone is low on hit points. Then go for the pin. There are 3 kickout charts based on how damaged the person being pinned is; roll a 20-sider to see if they can kick out. It is possible to 'power kick-out' on a good roll, stealing initiaive.

This game is GOLD! GOLD! Think of all the decisions to be made ("Do I roll the 20-sider first, or the 10?" and "Is it a good idea to go for the pinfall now?" and "Gosh, I hope I roll high this time...")

I'm sure CTP, Kevin, and Corey will be putting me INSTANTLY on their rolodexes, for the next time they're tapped for ideas. Just tell them only the first one is free, yo.

I've seen that one.

I have concerns about its lack of elegance vis-a-vis player elimination.

You don't HAVE to, but you do this in CHINATOWN WARS...I dropped something like $3000 on them trying to win a house.
