Hey all, just found this at a thrift store for next to nothing, and with it's killer combo of being about wizards and dragons and being an old AH Bookcase game, I had to sacrifice the 80 cents to see if it was anything cool.

Any thoughts on this game? Old AT classic, or failed attempt to cash in on the Dungeons & Dragons phenomenon of the late 70's?

Whatever it is, it's got a cool map.

80 cents well spent. It's a simple, RISK-style game with some cool flavor elements (like the rampaging orcs). Not a great game by any means, but a fun one worth playing. There's a computer version out there somewhere that's really good.

Wizard's Quest is a pretty fun game -- it is the first "hobby game" that I ever played (way back in 1985). Better than Risk in that the game ends when you collect your 3 treasures rather than with player elimination. Also, as Michael says, the orcs are a pretty cool addition, especially the "Orc Frenzy" -- some of our most memorable games is when orcs take over 1/2 the map or more.

Here is the link to the computerized version

I wasn't hugely sold on this - it's very confusing, and hard to make out what's going on, and the administration time you have to spend on working out where orcs are multiplying and attacking is exceptionally annoying. But it's certainly not a bad game per se, featuring plenty of theme and violence. Certainly worth 80 cents.

This is a pretty fun game, if I am remembering it correctly. It's not so much Risk as moving from territory to territory to get your treasures. I don't think you want to hold territory so much as have enough folks to get to your treasure.
