Risk: Balance of Power - in hand

I've received my copy from across the pond and have had a chance to get my ass handed to me by a competitive Risk player. I'm aiming to get some more plays in the next week or two but I'll have to say that it is a pretty fun and fast game.

It has a smaller footprint than your typical Risk board, is made for two players only, retains similar mission objectives to Black Ops, adds a neutral power, adds terrain effects on battles, has some interesting army placement rules that are a welcome change from the original Risk, allows unfortunate dice rollers (raising hand) to cash in their hordes of undead soldiers for some needed special abilities (some more permanent than others), has a small box footprint (10.5" x 10.5" x 2"), and easily plays over a lunch break.

More news as it happens later on the F:AT channel.

Let's get a front page review on that, Moto. I'm definitely interested in hearing more of your thoughts on it.

I've heard that a Risk in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Some pictures would be nice too. How much did you pay for it and where did you buy it?

No problema. I may end up playing it a few more times tomorrow night. If so, I'll take some pictures then and attempt to upload them. If not, I'll set up something here and take some this weekend.

I purchased it from Infinity Games www.iguk.co.uk

Infinity packed the game well and the total travel time from there to here was less than a week.

If I were in the UK, the price would be about $35, including shipping. It was closer to $50 shipped to the US because it has to travel via air mail. I would expect it to be in the $20 or less price range when it hits the states next year.

It has new gameplay options and it's portability and play time make it a version that can make appearances in situations that the traditional (or even revised) Risk would never have been considered previously.

Sounds like a plan, we'll make it happen.

Hahahaha...holy crap, I just realized I'd already playtested this early last year, still have the playtest kit. Can't wait to get a 'proper' version stateside. It was a lot of fun and very much in the 'Black Ops' Revised Risk style of play.

My interest in this would sky-rocket if they did a map of the U.S. for it instead of Europe. I'll probably pick it up regardless, but having civil wars with this system would have been great.
