I'm trying to get a handle on this one. It's on WargameVault but it's not a Print 'n Play. Apparently they mail you the cards and give you a link to the pdf rules. I can't read the rules without purchasing $45 worth of stuff.

I have not played it, but GMT has the rules for Pacific Typhoon on their website (same system).

Atlantic Storm is one of my all time favorites. At its heart, its a trick taking game. There are 20 rounds . Each round, the dealer draws two random convoy cards and decides which one players will fight for. The dealer decides which suit ( sub, surface, air , or all three combined ) and plays a card ( or more than one if they have bonus cards ) for either the Allies or Germans . Following players play for or against the dealer, contributing cards to either side. When all players have played cards ( or passed ) the side with the highest total value wins the convoy ; the player on the winning side with the strongest play decides who gets the VP - each convoy is worth VP as well as the force cards played into the hand. There can be negotiation involved - a player might say "I'll help out ; if we win you give me the best VP card ) .
The other wrinkle is that certain cards are "Fated" . For instance, if you play the HOOD, and a subsequent player on the same convoy plays BISMARCK, they remove the HOOD from the battle and immediately add it to their VP pile . This means for instance players with German capital ships ( which are all Fated ) will be more cautious playing them unless going late. A piece of light history if you will.
The only caveat is that you really need at least 5 players. Mechanically it works with say 3-4, but the reality is that too many convoys won't be contested, and that is really the heart of the game system.
PACIFIC TYPHOON is rules wise almost identical, but plays a lot different due to so many more cards being fated, like Japanese carriers.

It was a big thing at the gaming club way back when. Msample is right - it's a card game in WWII dressing.

Play time is about 90 minutes, so it's a good way to wrap up a day/night of gaming. Still draws about 100 entrants at WBC.

If anyone wants Pacific Typhoon I’m happy to let it go for a good price. PM me an offer.
