Ken B wins the AT Bowl!!!

I met up with Ken B to do a little gaming while I was on vacation. Ken completely destroyed me at Card Football. He needs to be playing poker in the casinos!

However, I did win two scenarios of Memoir 44. Lucky for me that Ken forgot the rule about retreating and when forced to retreat off the board he eliminated his entire unit not just one man.

I enjoyed gaming with Ken even though I suspect he had several Jokers up his sleeve during the game of Card Football.

Wow, that looks like Brett getting sacked.

Ha! SACKED, baby!

I was going to do a blog on this one, but as Steve knows my brother and his wife just had a baby so I've been preoccupied. However, should be back in the saddle now.

Steve is being kind...he DESTROYED me in that first scenario of Memoir we played (Omaha beach). Yeah, I screwed up the retreat rule--should have just lost one man due to being able to satisfy the retreat but instead I pitched the entire brigade. Wouldn't have made that much difference as they were staring down a German infantry brigade as well as some Panzers, taking that last town was an inevitability.

The second scenario I did much better on...the one with the "RUN AWAY!" Frenchmen...but my luck went out on me and I lost a close one 4-3.

Card Football...man, like I said, I just can't figure that game out. Every game, one player or the other...NOTHING goes right. NOTHING. The very first game I played of this it was close, 7-5. After that, we had a 21-10 game, a 24-7 game, and the game with Steve it was 24-3.

I can't blame luck because the game is long enough that luck should balance out (you reshuffle the deck at the end of each quarter.) I can't say it's skill because I've been on both sides of just rolling to victory or getting destroyed.

It's like...one player completes power hands, causes turnover, interceptions, automatic touchdowns, recovers fumbles, scores at will. The other player is stuck grinding out some yards before the big turnover or fumble and in general just playing like crap.

Steve was bummed we didn't use the optional player disc rules. Next time we'll try that, Steve. Essentially you spend 10 minutes drafting, then you probably spend another five-ten minutes total of game time swapping out your discs when possession changes. All of that just so some cards will give you a few extra yards ("RB 85+: +3 yds") and allow injuries when you play certain cards. But it does add some flavor.
