New Years Gaming Resolutions 2014

Mine is just to be more selective and less impulsive in my game purchases (not buying games isn't going to happen). Wait for the hype to die down basically.

I generally feel the same way, but I encounter some damn new thing that I think I must have. Putting a stop to that this year.

Oh, I lie. I did buy Kemet and Rampage this year. Now I have two more I need to get rid of in order to "justify" that. It's pretty funny how your own brain can work against you.

My goals last year went pretty well, I'm going to shift gears a little and hope to maintain my 2013 behaviour through 2014.

-Play through games I own and have not played. I don't have any numbers on this currently but if I get around to that I'll update. Essentially I own a bunch of games which, for various reasons, have gone unplayed. I'd like to dramatically reduce that number.

-Don't be curious with purchases. I know my tastes well, if I don't want a game, don't buy it. I did well with this in 2013 but made a few bad purchases late in the year. This method of game buying has literally never paid off for me.

-Sell, sell, sell.Trading is good when I'm trading for games I want, but often times I accept trades to get games I don't want out of my sight but acquire other games I'm not excited about. Sell games, focus on what I want. I'd like my previously owned games to outnumber my owned games by 2015.

-Wargame. This is something I've been exploring lately and I'd like to continue in deeper.

-Paint. Nothing particular, but I really want to get back into painting miniatures regularly.

Same as every other year: Avoid gaming with folks who have resolutions to play all of their unplayed games.

Mostly the same as everyone else:

Play more of the games I own (some of which have not been played ever. Netrunner, I'm looking at you.)

Get rid of the toads that will never be played again (every little bit of space is vital in my Brooklyn apartment!)

Buy less games (that's not really going to happen - but if I stop and write the resolution down, my thinking is perhaps one less game a year gets bought.)

Find a way to finally play either Here I Stand or Virgin Queen. I still won't buy it, but hopefully this year I'll play it.

- Get fresh Circus blood. My group has all but dissolved due to them being unhealthy both in lifestyle and for medical reasons unrelated to the aforementioned.

- Make new, better friends. Most of my friends are shut-in degenerates and I'd really rather have positive, non-pothead friends that are willing to leave the house.

- Get a regular miniature wargaming group going. I have enough room and terrain to cover 4 4x6 tables and it's sad to see them collecting dust.

To fully paint (within reason) my Kickstarter Incursion set when I get it.

My resolution is to not make any resolutions about games. I'm just gonna play 'em. Maybe too much, maybe not enough. Nothing in particular, just whatever seems fun at the time. Not buying many isn't a resolution, it's a lifestyle choice.

No longer read reviews, nor lists of what people are buying or drooling over, play games, not play games, do more interesting stuff with my family, not give a fuck about the hobby as such.

Practice putting. My short game is fine until I land on the green with a beautiful chip shot I can't ever sink.

Keep on keepin' on with rarely buying new games. I can probably cull off my collection more next trading season. Who knows, maybe something will come out that actually interests me this year? The last great games seemed to be Mage Knight and Netrunner.

Finish my level 1 playthrough of Dark Souls. If I can ever beat the Four Kings, which I never will.

My first resolution this year is will be simpler: to regularly to host gaming again. I lived a nomadic life in 2013 that made gaming very difficult, but thankfully the year ended with me settling into a new place. All I need to do now is get a good set of table and chairs for the new kitchen/dining room and I'll be ready to roll. I can't wait.

I also would like to hang out with F:AT people (heads up to Samoko, Bullwinkle, Juniper and any others in town). I'd love to catch a trashfest. The northeast Trashfest happened right around the time I moved, so I couldn't make it. The Northwest one is super tempting, but alas it's still a bit too soon.

This year I hope to play games I really like more often (such as Titan, Spartacus, and Talisman) and not play tons and tons of different games once. I don't think my group will help me with this, though.

My ambitious resolutions:

1. Paint the Spartacus figures.

2. Play more Spartacus. Great game that isn't getting enough play.

3. Spend some time at the new FFG Event Center, to meet up with more gamers. My gaming friends seem to be getting too busy with other stuff to play board games anymore.

4. Finish painting the Space Hulk figures. This will probably never happen, but it's good to have goals.

A Toronto gathering is a great idea. I'm usually free on Sundays, but my schedule has been hectic to the point that gaming has been a pain in the ass for the last year and a half :3
