But I'll keep banging on the Vassal Singles Bar thread to see if I can scare up some opponents. Starting Thursday I'll have one already, since I'm halfway through a game with ThirstyMan.
With grad school breathing down my neck I want to learn to try more tools like Vassal. I have a few friends who aren't local but would like to learn Twilight Struggle.

1. Play more! At least 2-3 times a month...or even twice a month.
2. 18xx. I want to play more of a range of 18xx games I've wanted to get in.
3. Meaty game nights. Want to play some more longer games this year like Civ., Game of Thrones, etc.
And I want to continue to NOT BUY GAMES UNTIL I PLAY THEM...and love them.

Disgustipater wrote: To play more board games. I've been playing X-Wing once a week for the past year, and board games have kind of fallen by the wayside. I don't know if this requires me to play less X-Wing, or if I can fit both activities into my schedule, but I really need to play some board games again.
When I was involved in three Attack Wing events per month that's what happened to me, everything else went by the wayside. And I ended up skipping quite a few of my regular Sunday game days due to Attack Wing the night before. Now that I've cut back to not hosting and just going to one, it's freed up a lot of my limited gaming time for other things.

This might take 2 years to do judging on how long it took us to play through our last league.

But a confession: it slightly bums me out that the people I used to game with weekly haven't stepped up to pick up the game night slack. You know, to share the burden hosting. If I indulge that thought, I feel kinda used. And so my new year's resolution is clear: I hereby resolve not give in to the temptation of worrying about that bullshit, but to get back to organizing game regular nights, feeding people and filling their glasses with my best scotch, and to think only about how happy game nights make people.

Who thought up this shit? It's like something the Japanese might invent.
The Japanese make me laugh, and the Russians sometimes, because they just don't give a shit about homophobic/racist ads and just fucking go for it. You'd get clapped in irons in the UK for coming up with the 'drop the soap ad' and actually broadcasting it. Rightly so.

I will be trying to bring the right attitude more often and buying less which is actually getting easier every year.

On the boardgame front, I have two groups, neither of which I'm really enjoying as much anymore. There are multiple reasons (and I fully admit *I* could be the problem here) but a big part is that I played 100 new-to-me games in 2014, most of which weren't worth playing once, much less twice. I am not interested in trying whatever the latest Kickstarter shit is or the hot new drudge simulator from Europe. I really enjoy Battle Merchants, and while it may not be a fantastic game I didn't get to play it very often, instead ending up playing Russian Railroads and Dead of Winter and Splendor and junk like that.
Maybe I'm being selfish, but I feel like I'm all the time playing stuff I don't give a shit about to be polite and friendly and not getting the same in return. I don't want to be the guy who vetoes everything at game day, but I also don't want to be constantly playing Kanban or Viticulture other stuff like that. I'd rather stay home and do something different.
My best gaming this past year was with my pal Matt. We have a large overlapping area of interest (though he enjoys wargames far more than me, which means at all) and have enjoyed 2p games of New Era, Theseus, Robinson Crusoe, Thunderstone, Merchant of Venus, and such. We know two not-so-heavy-gamer folks who occasionally play with us and those are the best times.
I don't mind playing 100 new games a year if they're all good games, but I don't think that's ever going to be the case, and I'd rather log 20 plays total of things I enjoy and good times than 250 plays of procedural bullshit.

Many times, Lee, but without the running and far more than four beers.
