Running from The Knowledge
I don't know, but no hipster cred here though, i just don't follow it (follow plenty of other sport), was out of town working when it was on, so i didn't do my normal news roundup, meaning, that's it - I'll never know now, unless I go looking.

A member of the Ford family was overheard a few years back saying that they were fine just "being"; not striving to be a champion, because that costs money and Detroit, like all NFL franchises, can virtually print money just by being part of the NFL, while Lions fans will still be slavishly loyal to a franchise that regards them as eminently disposable. The Lions are less a football team and more a football simulation that fronts a banking enterprise.
Like every year around this time, someone last night made the comment that, of the teams that have been in existence for the entirety of the Super Bowl's 53 years, two are undefeated in the game: The New York Jets (1-0)... and the Detroit Lions (0-0.)
The Lions play a valuable role as America's Thanksgiving turkey. The local team around here is the Vikings, who have notoriously lost each of their four Super Bowls. A lot of perfectly normal people in the Twin Cities have completely given up on caring about pro football. I had several conversations on Monday that consisted of both people mentioning that they didn't watch the Super Bowl and then moving on to a new topic. I took a mandatory class in Creative Job Search at the unemployment center on Monday, and each participant was supposed to give their name, occupation, how they lost their last job, and name their favorite Super Bowl tv commercial from the previous night. Everybody skipped the last question, and the instructor didn't mind.

If I look at the teams in different sports i follow, and their appearences in similar events, to use American parlance, I'm at 4 and 10 i think, and I've been at several of the losing ones, and only 1 of the wins (but that was a first leg so it wasn't over yet). Bad times make the good times. But good times don't always arrive either.
