New DungeonCrawl Boardgame

Looks like Mantic, makers of Kings of War, are taking another step into competing with GW. Not only do they have Alessio making their wargame rule set, fantastic miniatures, but now they're developing a dungeoncrawl boardgame.

Looks like a good way to hook new players over to their system/universe. You know like GW's specialist range games used too...

You gotta have the GW races to get the sales from all the Warhammer players looking for different models. Seems logical for a start-up.

However, let's see if a GW WHQ revision comes out to squash this...

This looks a hell of a lot more like a fantasy tabletop wargame than a "dungeon crawl".

The elves are already available.

I dunno. This bit:

makes it sound more like an adventure game than their full-blown Kings of War tabletop game. However, the rest of the [really scant] details make it sound a bit like a skirmish game a la Mordheim than something like WHQ. But, they are calling it a "boardgame", so, who knows...

More info has been posted at Mantic's site. It's starting to look more like Advanced Heroquest.

I picked up some Mantic minis and, I have to say, the quality and detail are quite nice--and they're pretty cheap compared to comparable GW plastics.

I can't say that video did anything to help my interest level. Looks like a Descent-style slog.

Hadn't watched the video when I posted it. Shame if that's the case...
