Romero's "Survival Of The Dead"...

...time to put a bullet to forehead of the series?

He's back again and this time he's gunning for the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Yes Mr. George "Zed" Romero returns to the silver screen with another "Dead" movie.

After the last two outings I say the series is done. I fucking loathed " Diary of the Dead". Where "Night of the Living Dead" was progressive in terms of monster movies and the portrayal of a strong character who happens to be Black ; "Diary" was regressive, amateurish and filled with cartoonish stereotypes.

Land of the Dead" was marginally better but it was no "Dawn" or NOTLD or even "Day of the Dead".

At this point I'd rather see him direct anything BUT a zombie film.

I dunno, the film hasn't come out yet but I'm highly skeptical it's gonna add much to the zombie canon.

PLEASE GEORGE PROVE ME WRONG!!!

Other than the deaf Amish guy, Diary was a complete waste of film. Land making zombies as smart as raptors wasn't much better. Romero seriously needs to retire while he still has some fans left.

Day of the dead is fucking terrible. That's the one with Bub the zombie isn't it? If it was then I thought it was pointless crap. The original Dawn must be something really special for this guy to have so many fans.

I'm definitely not a fan of "Day" but "Dawn" and "Night" are great. It seems the more he tries to make an allegory out of zombies the more shittier the films are.

When we were in grade school, my best friend and I used to hope for some kind of collapse of civilization, so that we could move into the nearest shopping mall and live there. Dawn of the Dead took our fantasy and matched it up with a zombie apocalypse in a compelling and fairly believable way. I ended up seeing it in the theater seven times, and it remains a favorite. Later on, I got to be friends with a guy who was the nephew of the black SWAT team guy, and I eventually got an autographed picture of him.

However, I agree that Romero needs a new topic, because zombies are too tired right now.

I personally think that Russo's Return of the Living Dead is the best in the series (depending on how you feel about him and Romero parting ways and who gets the rights). It manages to be both a horror movie and a comedy without sacrificing much of the other. If you don't notice the comedy it's a great horror movie but once you catch on (or grow up in my case) it's actually quite funny.

Plus the punk girl (Linnea Quigley I think) stripping in the grave yard!! That was my beggining to sex as a kid. My first porno in a way.

Admitedly all the sequels suck serious shit.

I liked Land of the Dead actually, not loved, but liked. It was pretty funny and Hopper had one brilliant line delivered perfectly.

The problem is, as his career has gone on, he's paid more attention to the central 'idea' than he has to the entertainment value of the films.
