"Blindsight" is the only one I've read and I thought it is one of the best science fiction stories I've read in a long time. A great first contact novel with a lot of interesting things to say about intellegence and sentience. The "vampire" is a little jarring but he does explain it well.

You should read "The Things" (basically John Carpenter's "The Thing" from "The Thing"'s point of view - clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/

I've met him, he's a really nice guy who's had a lot of crap happen to him.

Damn, I had forgotten about that story. Has Mr. Watts take on the "Was Childs a thing?" debate if I remember correctly.

I've got one, Behemoth: Seppuku. I got a bit into it and realized that it was actualy the last book of a series and then stopped until I could pick up the others. I have to say, though I had fuck-all idea what was going on [my first clue that I jumped into the ass-end of a story without checking first], I really liked his writing. It wasn't particularly dense but it was far from run of the mill brain candy. Seemed very clever.

I wish I could be more specific but I shelved it at the time figuring I'd find the other books at one of the used joints around here and then fell directly into David Drake's Lt. Leary and David Weber's Honor Harrington series--which have about 30 books between them that I've spent the better part of the last 6 months reading. (Helps greatly that you can get almost every one in both series from Baen's free eBook CDs).

But, thanks for the reminder as I'll probably go buy the other 2 Watts books in that trilogy and revisit as I'm just about hit my fill of Baen titles for the time being...

cheers guys

I will try out some of his stuff. Blindsight might be a good one to start with, as a stand alone
