What would you guys do? I just made a trade on Board Game Geek. In the trade I traded 2 games for 2 games. Well, the post office destroyed the shipping box his games were shipped in, and lost the 2 games. There was no insurance on the package.
How should I handle this?

It's not a moral dilemma. If you didn't get insurance, then unfortunately you're responsible for it. You either need to buy those games again to give to the trader, or send the games back to the them that they sent you, or give them a comparable amount of money. It sucks, but that's the only right thing to do.

yeah, cheaping out and shipping without insurance just means that you are self-insuring.
generally I ship with fedex as the insurance is built-in to the cost, and usually its cheaper for me than USPS

I agree with the last two poster. I always buy insurance when I ship games for just that reason. If I didn't I would assume responsibility. And it's happened once to me already. The package got mangled, and all I had to do was send the insurance # and all was well. I think the shipper has the responsibility to get the value of that game to the receivers doorstep.

I'm actually a bit confused by the OP. Does "the box his games were shipped in" mean the box TO you or the box FROM you? If it's from you, I'd go with "return his games or, if they're still available, buy and ship direct from an online retailer." If it's the box to you, I'd be asking for replacements...

Yeah, it was the box from me. I have never had a problem shipping before. I will send him his games back. Doubt I will ever ship through the postal service again.

I've shipped hundreds of games. They're generally very reliable. And I almost always pay the 1.20 for insurance. In the long run, one bad experience with the USPS doesn't come close to outweighing the enormous price increases that come with UPS or FEDEX.
Just pay the 1.20 for 50$ or 2.40 for 100$ next time.

I agree with Pete, except don't use the insurance, as long as you can take a hit for $50 to $100 when things go wrong. Your costs are likely to be lower in the long run by self insuring.
