Hey kids,

Congratulations, today is your day; (at least here in Costa Rica, not sure when it's in the rest of the world).  In Costa Rica is a big event, as we celebrate the rights and duties that kids have by law and is also a nice excuse for us grown-ups to have a fun time.

Most of the people that read this site are adults, however, I think it's important to write about this holiday for 2 reasons: remember how we were as children and remember the children of today.

First, I know we all play games, that's why we're here, however, do we still play like when we were kids?  Do you still play for fun and use your imagination to the fullest extend? Do you play with your toys regardless their scale, manufacturer or period? Do you have house rules to further enjoy the game?  Do you still play because you like the game as a fun way to spend time with family and friends?

Sometimes, we, as grown-ups forget that having fun is all that used to matter and that still, it should matter.  So we get into arguments with rules lawyers over petty things, or refuse to play games because someone didn't rate it as a good enough game or only play the new hotness or get into stupid fads.

Other times, we forget that games were just an entry into a whole world of imagination, when we used to think about our little army guys and when we wouldn't fuss about certain mechanic not working to our liking or not being realistic enough.

The idea is that we should remember, how we were and try to inject some of that optimism and joyness into our current play sessions which should make them more enjoyable, as I've always thought it's more important the people you're playing with and the mood they have towards the enjoyiment of a play session, than rather the game.  A good game can be a dull experience with the wrong people and a not so good game, can be an enjoyable experience with the right people.

Other than this, I'd also like to briefly mention today's kids.  I am not a father, however, I know that kids have it tougher these days with the escalation of drugs and violence that's directly geared towards them, so why not take a time to play with your kids and let their imagination run loose and show them that they can be perfectly happy with who they are and what they have?

If today, we can remember our happy days as kids and bring that forth into our attention, then maybe we can focus on having more enjoyable experiences and having a happier life.

Anyways, happy kid's day to all of us who still have our inner child alive and kicking, and for once let's play like we used to.
