My 5 year old girl liked it so it shouldn't matter if I fell asleep, as did my stepdad. The animations are beautiful at times and there are some pretty fun voice performances. J.K. Simmons, especially. I wish we had more David Cross in it, his character is always the best.
I was worried the fighting scenes would be really violent or encourage too much aggressiveness in my little pacifist but not at all. I didn't see the film really putting violence as the answer to anything, and maybe that's consistent with Kung Fu in general, I'm know little of martial arts. I need to watch Under Siege again or something. Then again, i'm so desensitized to violence imagery that it's quite possible the film was too much punch n' kick, but I don't think so. Seems like there were more dumplings eaten than fists thrown. They look so delicious too, I haven't craved Asian food this bad since I saw Spirited Away.
Surprisingly deep message on the role of stepfathers vs fathers as well near the end.
Did not see it in 3D, don't think I missed anything there. The animations were gorgeous so maybe they'd be slightly enhanced further.
Anyway, I really need to see Zoolandia...
