It’s unlike me to jump on a new board game,...

Here be Dragons. A phrase written on maps after medieval map makers would draw dragons to denote unexplored areas where they thought such monsters existed. They were regions of mystery, danger, possibility, and adventure. In the case of Flamecraft it’s just the line below Welcome on the town sign. Here be Dragons. They are here to help.

You nailed it. Flamecraft is adorable. It is pleasant, but not particularly compelling. If someone invited me to play, I wouldn’t say no.

Yeah that's it exactly. It's not an absolute must play but a nice game to have in my collection for when I want something fun to play that isn't a huge challenge to teach/play. I think there is a lot of room for games like that in the hobby, but they need to have something that makes them stand out a bit which Flamecraft has for me.

This one fell in a weird middle ground for me where it wasn't quite simple enough to teach to fill the newbie at game night niche, but also not interesting enough to play in other slots imo. It's main appeal is the cute factor, but that wasn't enough to carry it past the lackluster gameplay for me. Plus the board was terribly awkward to use. Game would have been much better served with a regular board that you didn't need binoculars to see the far end of.

Edit: I'm glad the retail was $40, very reasonable price. It was very easy to trade after a couple plays too.

I kind of like the board shape though I can understand it being an issue. It doesn't feel much harder to see than other boardgames with boards in this region to me. I go to a family games night a lot and it feels like a good fit for that crowd and seems to be ok for my regular home group as well.

This is a good fit for gamer families. I would be thinking about buying it if my daughter was about 10 years younger. It has cute dragons, and shops, and getting ingredients to make potions, all of which she would have loved as a preteen/teen. The $40 price tag isn’t bad either. We just already have a stack of cute family games that don’t get played much anymore.
