I've never played the 5e system, the last time I played a game was around 5 years ago, it was Pathfinder and it was with these friends. I picked up the Players Handbook and our DM told me we're playing Curse of Strahd. Any feedback about this module? (no spoilers please)
I feel like I'm a bit rusty with rules and mechanics of Tabletop gaming in general, however, I know i'll pick right back up with a bit of playtime. I was challenged to create a character I normally wouldn't play, I always did Wizard/caster or sneaky rogue type so I'm tossing up between Paladin or Cleric. Any feedback would be awesome here too!
I guess I'm just super excited to get back to a table with my friends and wanted to chat about it!
Curse of Strahd is the best 5E adventure. But...it is super railroad, full of DM read-aloud storytelling rather than player driven storytelling, and it is l-o-n-g. All of the WOTC adventures are. The whole thing is a 6 months-year commitment depending on how often you can play. I recently re-acquired the original Castle Ravenloft module and I prefer it, but it's not 5E.
There are some really great bits in it though...no spoilers, but the intro scenario "Death House" is really neat if you dress it up a bit.
Cleric/Paladin is a good idea for obvious reasons. The last time I ran anything from it was stupid though...Tieflings and Dragonborns just feel dumb in a gothic horror setting. My 10 year old son, when confronted with a pack of werewolves, said "But I'm a dragon man, why should I be scared of them?"
