Has anyone played Rez?

I am currently playing Rez HD on the Xbox 360. I don't think I have ever played such an exilerating game. I think it was originally a Dreamcast and PS2 game. The graphics are very simple wireframes and polygons. It is a rail shooter. It's very short (that said, I am struggling with the final level).

It is also a rhytmn game based around techno. The rhytmn only really determines when your shots are fired so the the explosions coincide with the music. There is no real story. Messages come up on the screen that suggest you are a hacker breaking down defenses to access a computer. It has a great cyberpunk feel.

This is all very old fashioned and doesn't sound like much. It all comes together perfectly. The experience is brilliant.

It is a good one, isn't it? When you're done with it, you should try Panzer Dragoon Orta if you haven't played it already. It's very similar, only instead of listening to techno, you're shooting the shit out of wierd monsters and airships.

I've heard great things, I never tried it though.

I haven't played the 360 version, but I have played the heck out of the Dreamcast version. Rez is a very good game. A game that is much more than the sum of it's parts.

The Joystiq dudes were all boners about it so I checked it out and it was a total let down. Shitty techno remake of tempest. Fuck that shit.

Was there a Dreamcast version? I thought it was only PS2.

And it's nothing like Tempest.

Tempest also never shipped with a bonus that made your girlfriend/wife/hooker encourage you to play more video games:

I have Panzer Dragoon Orta. I played it a few years back. I should give it another go.

The trance vibrator article is pretty funny.

I owned a Tempest arcade machine for a number of years. Rez is not Tempest and does not pretend to be Tempest. Rez is a unique shooter with the lockon and melodic creation. It has a wireframe fly through perspective but that is the only similarity.

That being said, Tempest is one of my favorite arcade games of all time.

yeah, I tried the demo and hated it but I hear the full game is amazing (it really gets good in the later levels). I hope to pick it up one day.

Love Rez. Also like the PS3 Everyday Shooter--which to me is a guitar-based relative.

Odd. I'm still digging Everyday Shooter, and sadly I've yet to see the final level.

The first two levels are a breeze, but the difficulty ramps up into the terrifying. It isn't Treasure hard, but it is my fave of the modern Robotron-control clones.
