Yes, GW has fluff that blows ffg, wotc, etc away

I agree with pf and Sax; GW's setting material (for 40k and the Old World) is so much better than WOTC's or any other RPG company. I occasionally read their fiction but I can't imagine ever wanting to pick up a Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms book (again, I mean -- when I was in 7th grade I thought Dragonlance was as good as fiction could ever possibly be ever). I also have no interest in the White Wolf fiction despite it ostensibly having "mature" themes.

Any theories on why? My first guess was sense of humo(u)r, but my favorite 40k books (the Eisenhorn trilogy) don't especially have this. Perhaps a consistent vision helps, but I don't know that GW's vision is any more consistent than WW's, or for that matter, Ed Greenwood's. Do they just hire better writers? More creative/original?

Now that I think about it, I do read Delta Green fiction -- dunno if that really counts as RPG fiction, since it's more just modern-day Mythos stuff. And I am mildly curious in picking up some Unknown Armies and Over the Edge fiction if I can find it for a reasonable price, and can be bothered.

Yes! The 'fluff' of 40k is awesome. I have been pulled in hook, line and sinker ever since I read the background material that came with the new Space Hulk. I mean how awesome that there is just as much story included with the game as rules. I  GW.

Oh man the fiction that came in the scenario book for Space Hulk 3rd Edition is incredible, I read through it twice. Unbelievable.

What's the deal with RPG PDFs? I tried to buy Dark Heresy but FFG is selling the PDF for $60! (Okay it's on sale for $30.) Why would anyone pay that much for a digital copy? It would cost over $100 to get that printed in colour.
