Nexus Ops is the DOAM of choice for me; all others need to prove they're better than it and so far few have met the challenge. Fortunately for Inis, it's almost more like El Grande than Nexus Ops. It should be stated, though, that we were feeling our way around the game and probably weren't playing it as we would a second time. It's a nice, streamlined package.
Also, lovely, lovely art.
I really do not understand the level of hype and emotion surrounding this rather average worker-placement game. I do appreciate the integration of the theme, but the amount of work required for so little payoff is a huge turn-off for me. I'd much rather play Antiquity.
This is an odd little two player game of simple card placement. Each player has a small number of cards, placement rules are pretty simple, and games are over fairly quickly. Yet it's oddly satisfying. Seems like it should have pretty finite replayability, but if that's the case, I haven't noticed yet.
Vastly immersive "wargame". In quotes because how much war there is depends greatly on which role you play. I'm not a wargamer and yet I've enjoyed both my plays of this. There's something for everyone here.
