I like the C&C system a lot and was an early adopter of Battlelore (I'm a sucker for hype, or was) but ended up ditching Battlelore while the demand was still pretty high for it. It did very little for me once I had both M44 and CCA -- it's neither quick to set up and play like M44 nor as deep as CCA, which is unfortunate considering how many rules there are and how much setup time there is.
I think FFG should ideally do a complete relaunch, although this might be completely unfeasible. The fact that there are still no leaders/heroes shows how badly DoW missed the ball on capturing the WH/D&D market. Do they realize why people play those two games in the first place?
Besides leaders/heroes, to recapture my interest FFG'd need to:
- add a campaign mode. What's the point of having a heroic leader if he can't get better and cooler?
- do better deployment rules than Call To Arms. Maybe staggered reinforcements or something tied into the campaign mode.
- ditch the halfassed "historical" element. The 100 Year's War was boring and dumb.
- but also play down the fantasy element, or at least balance it. Some of the Lore is cool, but some of it is just ridiculous and overpowered.
- redo the creature rules. Give them hit points or something.
- cast the armies in different colors at least, like M44.
