SJG Ogre reprint still possible?

The John Kovalic artwork is ugly as sin, but it's the Foglio shit I can't stand. Back in my M:tG days I refused to put a Foglio card in my decks regardless of how well it fit.

Yeah, but it was SJG that decided that Speed Racer-style, anime-bullshit Car Wars was somehow a good idea. They could not possibly have come up with a better way of alienating their own fanbase without actually printing "fuck you, customer" on every cover.

Michael is right: there are times SJG needs to be saved from itself. One day soon they are going to find out the hard way that the world just doesn't need a 47th Munchkin expansion.

Car Wars in itself was meh but Sunday Drivers had a great theme and with three or four playable facrtions out of hte box it was great - different types of factions too. It was less car heavy and no arena.

Car Wars may be one thing, but Car Wars with modified 1:64 scale cars (matchbox and hot wheels size), elaborate post-apocalyptic settings, the right atmosphere (Motorhead, Corrosion of Conformity, whiskey, etc), smart streamlining of some rules, and a taste for grand finales is about as good as gaming can get. That, at any rate, is what I am fortunate to have access to once and a while curtesy of my local autoduel association .

Even with Shockwave, we're not talking about that many units. G.E.V. uses mostly the same countermix as OGRE anyway, and the reinforcement pack was just a replacement countersheet from the VHS box.

The officially released stuff, including Shockwave and Battlefields (which isn't the Reinforcement Pack) includes nearly 40 unique units (most double-sided) for each of the factions, including the stationary stuff in PanE and Combine colors, plus another 20 or so unique of misc. terrain, markers, and the red/white stuff [and for those who haven't seen the expansions, go grab the VASSAL module as the counters in that are almost all straight scans of original SJG counters).

So, 100 counters to have just 1 of every current counter? It's not a lot by hex-n-chit wargame standards, but, SJG had seriously grand (or, perhaps, delusional) plans for this. So, with that number of units and the need for multiples of most of them, you think there'd be, what, 300-400 counters?

I'd be very happy with Lock-n-Load-style 5/8" heavy die-cut counters and mounted maps from GEV, Shockwave, and Battlefields along with enough crater markers to create a custom OGRE map from existing stuff. For comparison's sake, those titles are running ~$45-$65. [Hell, I'd be very happy with MMP/GMT counters and cardstock maps at this point, but I really don't think they want to scale their ambitions "down" to that level.)

Color me confused as to what you're talking about. My crowd were "original pocket box" players and pretty much stopped paying attention to new Car Wars releases sometime after the "Deluxe Edition" blue box set but well before 1989. Since arena racing was part of the deal going back to the earliest days [it wasn't all Mad Max shite all the time], what did they do to fuck it up so badly?
