Risk 2008

Just a heads up. The mass market version of Risk with the new rulest by Rob Daviau is on the shelves at your local TRU. I picked up a copy today for $24.95 + tax. For the curious it looks just like the pics posted from the NY Toy Fair (ie big and small arrows for units, reddish board, plastic city minis, etc). As a side note, I thought it was cool that the rules are in the same dossier format as Risk: Black Ops. Overall I think the presentation is well done. I look forward to giving the game a try this week at game night. (I never got a chance to play R:BO)

Sweet. That's a great game, assuming it's the same as Black Ops. That's like Risk turned up to 11.

According to Rob, it is 100% the same game as BLACK OPS. Just not black.

Aha! Now I have something to do tomorrow; scour CVG* for the new Risk.

*The Cincinnati Airport is in (actually nearer to) Covington, Kentucky, a fact that seems to bother some people for some reason.

Whatever happened to Barnes' Black Ops review for Gameshark? I'd hate to think he didn't review his free copy after making all that fuss over others not reviewing theirs.

I didn't see any around YIP (at least I think that's the code for Willow Run)

I had one ready to go the week after the interview with Rob (which has a lot of my thoughts about BLACK OPS in it anyway) but Abner and I decided that it would be better to hold off on it and put it out when the retail version hit. That way, folks reading it would be reading a review of a game they could actually go out and buy without spending $500 for it on Ebay. As soon as I get a hold of a copy so I can comment on the production, it'll be up at Gameshark.

So you aren't reviewing your copy of Black Ops that was sent to you months ago for review. Instead you're reviewing the 2008 edition in which case you didn't even need the Black Ops version.

Whatever, man. I played BLACK OPS quite a few times getting ready to interview Rob and if you read it it's pretty clear. The interview was all about BLACK OPS and I'm pretty sure I fulfilled my obligation to cover the game in advance of its release.

It's pretty neat looking. The pieces are obviously from 2210, although I'm not sure where the little white infantry dudes came from.

I saw the box in a store yesterday. Its not nearly as bad as some of the early pictures made it look. Although at the same time I don't personally care for the overall style and colors. I tend to prefer my maps to look solid abstract, or historical, or topographical, and the new version is none of those.
