Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome: Heroscape Versus Man O' War

But first prepare yourself for unbalanced fleets, vague or unclear rules, inelegant movement/measuring system, wild swings of dice rolls, character galore and a game with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. But also prepare for a lot of fun and "did that just happen?" moments.

Huh, sounds like you're describing Heroscape except that Heroscape has an excellent movement system.

Haven't played HEROSCAPE? Are you under a fucking rock or something? There was a time you couldn't walk down the street without tripping over clearance sale HEROSCAPE shit everywhere. I haven't played MAN-O-WAR, but fuck that, I am voting anyway. I love the HEROSCAPE has painted minis. I love making the crazy ass map. I love debating the merits of three X-Files guys vs. Some crazy mech from the future. I love that someone brought a Silver Surfer to some HEROSCAPE tourney and fucked everybody up with it. Its piles of custom dice, a totally unnecessary d20, enough plastic to choke a horse that is made of also plastic and simultaneously choking a whale, and the wonder on my kids faces when I drag that big tub out.

HEROSCAPE is a game that makes gamers. MAN-O-WAR is some OOP boat game.

Ironically, the only thing missing from HEROSCAPE is pirates. Maybe some boat terrain pieces and larger water pieces. That'd be awesome.

Plus, the castle expansion is awesome.

Anyways,

My son and I have enjoyed Heroscape for the last few years. I always try to play in at least one tournament each year at GenCon and always enjoy myself. Man O' War sounds cool, but I'll never get into a true minis game. Space Hulk was enough cutting and assembling for me.

I made a few pirate customs at some point, no card though, because I don't really know how to use photoshop. But if you can find suitable mini's (or mod up a squad of 10th reg as I suggested):

I never playtested it, but I have a pretty good feel for pricing on this kind of stuff.

So.... if I were to scout ebay for a starter set of Heroscape, what would I be looking for? Ideally I think I'd like the fantasy or horror angle as opposed to military or super hero.

Send me a PM. I can sell you one of my second edition Rise of the Valkyrie. It's opened, the box is a bit scuffed and it's got all you need to play casually.

However there are a few WWII army dudes and 3 robots sprinkled into that set.

But for many people it has tons of re-playability and the base units will keep you plenty busy.

I on the other hand, have a compulsive collection habit and are 2 figures short of a complete set (promos not included).
