Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Wargame Trashdome Finals: Here I Stand vs. Hannibal

'Here I Stand' has some pretty significant problems as a game, but as a gaming experience, it's wonderful. In other words, it's the most Ameritrash of wargames, and it won't surprise me if it wins here.

Neither of these are in my top-ten wargames, but I suppose my vote is HiS, if only because Hannibal's battlecards are really annoying to deal with.

Without revealing my possible tie breaking vote, I'd just like to add Here I Stand is my favorite multiplayer wargame and Hannibal is tied for my favorite wargame with Twilight Struggles.

I've played HIS but it's too janky for my liking. I don't even know if that's a word but that's how I felt playing it.

Well, it's in Urban Dictionary if that counts for anything at all...

Janky: (adjective) inferior quality; held in low social regard; old and delapidated; refers almost exclusively to inanimate material objects, not to people
We tried to pick up on these girls waiting for the bus, but I was driving my sister's janky 1989 geo metro so we just got clowned instead.

I never heard it until today so thank you. I think...

I only played HIS once but since when does any of this shit matter? No one brought it up in the other competitions. I'm starting to think wargammers are more anal for some reason. I played Hannibal two times and didn't like it very much. HIS I thought was ok, it has a cool setting and it's multi-player which I prefer. I bet you are tempted to not count my votes now eh? ... to make matters worse I've played Twilight Struggle more then any of them and really don't like it much at all. I only play it to placate my friends. Probably my least favorite of the bunch.

Votes is votes.

I think "how much do you actually play it?" is a legit question. For me, the answer is "enough".

Hell, I'm just glad HIS got through the semis. To be honest, (and to beat a vaguely horse-shaped stain) I don't really consider Twilight Struggle any more of a wargame than High Frontier is.

Great game overall, but a bit too abstracted from the wars for the category in my opinion.

Here I Stand has terrible, terrible combat rules. Astoundingly awful. The players usually make it good, but ugh. I just can't shake the dated and fickle system behind this monstrosity. Plus it's too damn long to get anything resembling regular play.

Hannibal is good, but there are better CDGs. I guess I'll vote for it because it's pretty fun.

Wishful thinking vote: Paths of Glory :v

I'm neither a wargamer nor anal. Wondering whether folks are playing it != questioning validity of voting, and I consider Trashdome nothing more than a timekiller.

I don't think it's even the most Ameritrash of GMT's multi-player CDGs. Sword of Rome and Successors have a bigger king-of-the-hill feel to 'em, and HIS is seriously blemished by that religion-flippin' wankfest.

Here I Stand wins the finals. Hannibal put up a good fight but lost by 2 votes.

#4. Here I Stand = 8
vs.
#6. Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage = 6

Next year after enough people have played VQ we'll have to have Trashdome: Here I Stand vs. Virgin Queen. Next week we'll be starting superheros, comic books and movie trashdome as we roll into summer.
