This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.
Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;
I wouldn't expect other CinemaDomes to be as good. These are two very much loved films that people are passionate about and have seen multiple times. We're all fairly familiar with them so can follow along with the great analysis.
You gave me a great idea that would probably be fun for SOME. Every February, I'll try to figure out which are the top two films in contention for Best Picture and make a cinemadome between them BEFORE the Oscars. Spotlight v Revenant (yuck), Birdman vs Boyhood (robbed!), 12 Years a Slave vs Gravity (so close),
....ouf, maybe it's not actually that interesting. We gotta go with pairings that get people fired up.
I would count myself in the camp of Alien is better than either of the other two, but I also have to bring out the old saw that it's comparing apples to oranges. Aliens and Fury Road are very much in the same wheelhouse, whereas Alien is a completely different genre (horror vs. action-- sci-fi is just the setting).
I would love to see a three-way discussion between Under the Skin, Her, and Ex Machina. So much to talk about there regarding Artificial Intelligence, the male gaze, and the human condition. Of course, they're a lot more recent and cerebral, so they probably wouldn't garner as much passion as these two did.
It was back and forth there at the beginning...until the essays and quotes started coming in.
Winner!
16 - 8
Note - Gregarius, had a great suggestion with Her v Ex Machina. We'll get to that one trust me, but tune in Monday for the next edition of...CinemaDome!
