× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Space Hulk VS Blood Bowl

WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting on it. End your first post in this thread with the title of the game you're placing a bet on (i.e. voting for) so its clear to me when reading it later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. Counting expansions or not is entirely up to you just as playing with them or not is. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Two games, high in quality, similar in style, and will be hard to separate for many. For me though this is clear. Space Hulk gets its re-playability from different missions, Blood Bowl from its different teams. For me what I call 'ownership of playstyle' (the ability to play the game your own individualistic way) is the most important thing for a game, and Blood Bowl has it way more than Space Hulk. Plus there are no campaign rules for Space Hulk in 3rd ed, so that gives Blood Bowl a second edge.

Thus vote: Blood Bowl

No contest.

Space Hulk is a very good game, but I don't love it. It's very limiting in terms of strategy, and a game between two equally skilled players will usually be decided by the die rolls. That's fun in its own way, but it doesn't quite cut it for me. The new edition is absolutely awesome, though.

Blood Bowl is the clear winner here. All the little bits of chrome, fluff, and flavor make it feel like you're playing around in another little world, and the gameplay itself is fucking intense. I actually don't like play BB more than every once in a while, because it can be draining to slug it out for a match, but it's a hell of game about which you can say that.

Ancient of MuMu hit the key points. Blood Bowl has a sense of ownership of play like no other board game.

First there is the variety of teams, while most are divided into two camps (strong bashy teams and fast agile teams) they all have unique strengths and weaknesses.

Second, even if you have two orc teams play each other their makeup will be different depending on how each player has spent his money on throwers, black orcs, blitzers, lineorcs, etc.

Third, you have to create your own playbook. The only rule on setup is you have to have at least 3 figures on the line of scrimmage. That's it. This creates a huge spread in level of player strategy. I was teaching my brother how to play on fumbbl a couple of years ago and of course I annihilated him as he didn't have the fundamentals down. And the thing is, I'm not that good of a player!

Fourth, you have Blood Bowl's excellent RPG mechanics. You earn money, your buy new players, your players gain experience and gain new abilities, your players get injured or die. You can compete in tournaments. It's just fantastic.

Space Hulk. Love the theme, simple play, just seems to draw me into it.

BB is a great game but only really shines as a "lifestyle game" IMO -- running in a league, having a team grow and evolve over a long time. But if I'm going to play a lifestyle game there's other ones I'd rather play.

For many reasons already listed above, but also because it's the one game in which chaos dwarfs have not been disavowed (and which I still play frequently).

Maybe it's because of the total lack of excitement about American Football in Europe. But Blood Bowl doesn't do anything for me, then again even if it was about soccer it wouldn't work for me. I love the tight strategic puzzle work that is Space Hulk. And its theme is totally awesome!
