It's always funny to me how men confuse "revealing attire" with "sexy". I've seen total fucking hags (these girls aren't hags, BTW, they're just average, plain Jane girls dressed up like Renaissance festival whores) wearing skimpy outfits and men flip their shit over them. Hell, look at most porn. NASTY women. But they're naked, and that means "hot".

I'd say they are fairly attractive. The elf ears look stupid and the costumes don't do anything for me. Put them in regular jeans and a t-shirt or something, and I think they'd be just fine and more appealing.

The money makes more sense on WOTR, even though I despise high fantasy and especially Tolkein, that's my problem, not the games. The high end treatment makes more sense for what it is. SoC is an awesome game and I bet it's better then WOTR, but I just can't see how a big 3D edition adds anything to it.

With WOTR it would add a lot. Playability is just the begining.

Really, I just wanted to bust your balls because you clearly made the wrong choice by picking Settlers over War of the Ring. I've played on mine, and pretty much wont play on the original again, especially if the figs have not been at least spray painted.

Settlers of Catan CE vs. War of the Ring CE seems a bit like comparing Agricola animeeples to Wings of War miniatures. The former do little for the game other than to pretty up the cube-tastic original; the latter add a level of visual detail that really brings the game to life on the tabletop.

Settlers' theme - settling an uncharted island - is merely a backdrop for player interaction. The collectors edition sure looks sharp, but the actual play experience doesn't seem like it would benefit from the added visual impact. War of the Ring, on the other hand, is an epic in both length and scope that deserves an equally grandiose production. It's a game hallowed for its narrative focus and its attention to thematic detail, and the CE's emphasis on presentation fuels our sense of immersion.

I've seen photos of the WotR CE and I agree that there's more they could have done with it. But I do think that a component overhaul for WotR makes more sense.

I disagree. Settlers 3-D changes Catan. The game becomes less abstract because the island is right there in front of you.

The figurines obviously can't be in the same scale as the board, so the game doesn't allow you to see Middle-Earth on your game table in the way that Settlers 3-D allows you to see Catan. Settlers 3-D is a microcosmic fantasy world. WotR is an abstraction.
