I'm pretty sure that blowing on NES cartridges as a kid gave me enough of a lung workout to cure my asthma. It took like 10 minutes to start up a game of Skate or Die.

Depends on how frequently the gun jams. After all, a primitive melee weapon IS a better weapon than a jammed gun. But yeah, people here seem to forget the older consoles had their good share of problems.

What happened to the OP is tragic, and to think somewhere out there is a drunk MS customer service employee bragging:

“…and the dude just went ahead and deleted the DRM file haha! God I love this job”.

Back in 2006, the only way you could back-up your saves was with a ridiculously overpriced memory card. I actually bought one because I couldn’t handle the thought of losing my Oblivion progress. I remember thinking at that time that the graphics could not be improved that much more because the games would be too expensive to produce. It is 2012 and we are still on the same hardware, so it turns out I was right.

Copy to a USB stick, QP, and you'll always have backups. Or, just back it up regularly:

And El C, you can throw a handgun just as easily as a rock, so they're about equal. Hell, if you use a handgun as a truncheon, it's actually more user friendly than a rock...it has a handle!

Oh, and revolvers NEVER jam.

THREADJACKED! Bthulhu calls....

did someone say that the NES was more reliable than the 360? NES can't age because the brass contact plates erode. Especially when idiot kids (like us) blow on them and get a little bit of saliva on them which speeds up the erosion. Once the brass/copper breaks down a bit, it no longer works at all.

Blowing on them is one of the worst things you can do. The best thing is to use an alcohol-tipped q-tip... blah blah blah who cares

sorry MSFT customer service screwed you.

So how do you handle Intellivision cartridges?

I know nothing of the ultimate gaming console that gave us UTOPIA and other gems. The only old console I have is my NES which I have studied on how to maintain carefully. It works like a charm but almost all games are really not kept well so the games mostly don't work.

I got a Legend of Zelda and a Super Mario that work great but it's my mission to find a Mario 3 that actually works. So far no luck. A lot of buying ones on eBay and then shipping back to them the next day :(

when can we play Utopia?

They never wear out because the disc on the controller wore out well before the games did. We probably replaced the controllers twice but never had a cartridge go out.
