I'm going to go to work since I have to go to work, but I don't understand who in their right mind is going to be going to the things that are reopening.

Yeah, I mean, one answer is almost no one will actually be going out if you look at public opinion. Lots of speculation is that it could be states trying to save their own ass by not paying unemployment benefits. No substantial state bailouts and unemployment is paid mostly by states.
Our governor has been explicit about that. The state hasn't peaked yet, but the governor has said that if businesses open up--and the restrictions, even in hotspots, are largely lifted now--and employees don't show up because of a generalized fear of catching COVID-19, that's a voluntary quit and disqualifies the person from unemployment benefits. This puts no onus on businesses to ensure baseline safety (even if that were possible at this stage).
I'm still trying to hire more entry-level workers this week. Owners gave me permission to up the pay range by $1.00 per hour and pay Indeed extra to keep our ad on top of the searches. So I have had about four times as many as applicants as usual. Of the 70 applicants, I tried to contact 22 and managed to book 11 of them for interviews. One is scheduled for tomorrow. Of the other 10 interviews, only 3 showed up. Two got offers, and I will probably make the third guy an offer tomorrow. In more normal times, I probably would have had 2 no-shows instead of 7. I think that a lot of people did the math and realized that they can make more money in the short-term by staying on unemployment. Or maybe they are just afraid. One no-show got as far as our parking lot, and then turned around and left.
Our governed published our criteria for initial re-opening. It included:
Doubling our testing capacity to 6,000 per day with a 48 hour turnaround time for results.
Statewide contact tracing.
Screening without doctor’s order of high-risk and vulnerable populations.
30 day supply of PPE and a stable supply line.
Standards, regulations and protocols for each business sector.
Our governor was so humiliated by the bad publicity from the previously linked thing where he shut down researchers modeling covid spread that he reactivated the teams.
We're still 51st in testing per capita, I believe.
my store opened at 5pm today. i worked 12-5 prepping. people were waiting in the parking lot and outside the door. i passed 20 people on the way out, 1 was wearing a mask. i dont understand people.
In most cases, people not wearing masks are selfish, ignorant, fucksticks that should be dragged out from public places (while gloved of course) screaming if that’s what it takes. Their fucking “liberty” means nothing to me. What means something to me is that the folks working every day at the grocery store feel safer and have less of a chance of getting it. It’s so unbelievably -rude- to not wear a mask right now.
Around me it is always either 18-25 year old dipshits without a fucking clue or god damned boomers on their “this is all overblown, I’m making my own decisions” high horse. It’s like my wife said, if these human sewer-brains keep spreading it...what the fuck good has ANY of this social distancing and lockdown done? We’ve sacrificed so much and these anti-human assholes (many of them most likely party of the Republican/capitalist death cult) think that their “liberties” are important enough to potentially passively KILL PEOPLE for?
The only thing worse is these fuckers that take off their masks and gloves in the parking lot and throw them on the ground for someone else to pick up. That’s the American Way, isn’t it?
The American character is in full bloom right now. I’ve always tried to be optimistic and value the things about the US that are great, but the way I am seeing people act from the White House down to people on my street is just disgusting. Fortunately, there are more good Americans than bad, I think, and it’s on us to use this hinge event and turn all of this around.
Kuwait enter TOTAL lockdown for 20 days. This means no one is allowed out of the house at all except 4.30 to 6.30 pm for exercise. No stores are open, no private supermarkets. No food delivery services.
You can make an appointment to go to a coop via a website which doesn't work.
I have some frozen bread and that's it. So it literally looks like bread and water for the next 20 days.
