I finally got around to playing my first full game of Armada the other night and the game is fucking amazing.
Completely different from all the other Fligth Path games. And so much more game there it appears. Really kicking myself for not taking advantage before Wave 2 dropped and CSI and MM had most of the stuff at half off.

My local store has been selling them for $40 all through December, but they were doing the same for Imperial Assault. The difference is that I think they marked down a set number of core sets for each game, and then let the price go back up when they went through that stock. Those $40 copies of Imperial Assault are long gone, but as far as I know Armada is still there. I almost bought a copy myself, but the extra content is much more expensive than either X-Wing or Imperial Assault.

I think it is. A lack of buzz along with the huge initial buy-in. I think I paid something like $265 for two cores plus wave 1 over the summer. And this was with sale prices on expansions! And I have a feeling that a lot of other people out there are like me and actually waiting for the sales before purchasing. Oh, and it took forever for wave 2 and the freaking iconic Imperial Star Destroyer to come out. I don't think that helped.

Yeah, its only been a year, but they've had it long enough to forecast a long term trend. X Wing was in tight supply for a long long time. Armada apparently doesn't have that problem.

Wave 2 just released very recently and Wave 1 was pretty much a launch release. A year between waves is kinda long.

Personally, I'm fine with that. Other folk, I dunno. I've seen some bitching, nothing major. Just speculating.

Is it possible to cobble together a good set of X-Wing from the following sale at Cool Stuff?

Not really. You'd be extremely bomber heavy and have odd lists. The Force Awakens core set is good, but you'd probably want to pick up earlier expansion packs like B-Wing, A-Wing, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, TIE Advanced, etc.

What would my non-gamer family enjoy more, Catacombs or Flick Em Up? Three kids ages 12-16, and my rules-impatient wife.

Hell yeah! I just grabbed one of those. That'll be the price to beat for some time, I think.

If you see the Flick 'Em Up expansion on sale anywhere, grab it immediately. Running around on horses and lassoing wild colts is extremely fun. Not to mention trying to shoot a cowboy off a horse by firing up a ramp.
