I miss Southernsman's straight talk and down to earth sensibilities.
Could you please come back and kick some ass?

Thanks,

Steve"Help me obi one"Avery

I read yesterday that one of the last veterans of World War I passed away in England. Was that Southernman?

I hope not. He was the last living person to have met Oliver Cromwell.

I wonder if there's an Axis and Allies table in an old folks home missing a player...

I think Southernman has adopted a fake name -- Richard Perrucci -- and he's living under cover in Milton, Delaware:

Seriously though, does anyone here know him personally? If not, that is a possibility. (Not the WWI veteran part).

Awhile back he indicated that he was going the offline awhile. I don't think we should be planning the funeral yet.

Though I'll raise a toast in his honor just in case.

I've met him: he doesn't live all that far away from me. As Sag says he withdraw regarding dissatisfaction with some aspects of how this site is run. Clearly he was either a lot angrier or a lot more stubborn than we all assumed.

(although thinking about it, this is Southernman, so we probably shouldn't be surprised)

I hope he comes back one day though.

This was also my impression.

I distinctly remember him saying that it was too chit-chatty. I don't think he wanted people to say anything unless it was MENSA-quality discussion (having a ready-made thesis as back-up and such). In which case, I'm in big trouble

I'd heard that the Cylons took him away to be recycled.
Seems the Radio Shack TRS-80 chip was past it's used-by date.

My understanding was that Tom wasn't happy with what he viewed as "preferential treatment" of me, one of the site runners. Go figure. He didn't like that I was deleting some posts that Frank LaTerra made that weren't about front page content but about me. Some dumb bickering stuff. Tom pitched a little bit of a fit over it all, and I think that's why he hasn't been around.

Sad, really. I like the guy and I liked his whole powder keg mentality here.

Well I have to admit, it does feel a little safer now clicking on the “Submit” button.

I'm still very sad about it. Over of course of the weeks leading up to that incident and the weeks following things were said to me about staff and members, and about the site, and things were said about me to other people that have been hard to forget. When I remember these things it makes it difficult for me to come here and do what I have to do. So I can totally understand Tom not coming here at all, since he doesn't have to.

The silverlining is Tom is partly responsible for a number of changes in both policy and technology that I think have made the site better. For example, deleting anything on the site is now a three step process.

I guess I've been wanting to say that for a long time. And now I have. And I don't really want to talk about it anymore.
