Strongly considering getting in on the new core space set on kickstarter or alternatively getting the older starter set with the robots, going to give it a few weeks to see if the retail therapy feeling abates. Go check out Michael's review here or one of charlest multiple reviews if you want to know more critical thoughts:

Looking at the whole line and it looks cool but quite fragmented---looks like new crews of player characters, which is a neat way to package things, new packages of NPCs, new packages of enemies, and then bigger things that have more scenarios and terrain along with new figs. Is that about right? What do experienced players feel like is the maximum value here?

I dunno, anyone besides those two reviewers playing/played and have thoughts? Any legs on this one? Just trying to check the TWBG pulse overall before dropping cash; I don't have much use for the terrain besides the game inside the box so that's not a huge draw.

I decided to pledge for the new KS. This set is more co-op / solo focused so I'm going to be less dependent on opponents. That is appealing compared to the older stuff. I just don't know when traditional game nights will be happening again at my house.

God, that's so funny you say that. I was just posting about this on fb and it made me want to pay way too much money. *Who fucking knows* when I'll be doing other shit out again. I have a job (for now) which features me in person with young people who probably aren't being super safe, who gives a fuck if I spent 100 dollars when I save money every week not doing anything I used to do.

So far I'm in for the base box of this KS, the expansion, and an extra set of dashboards, since they are essentially giving us a whole second crew at this point. It's pricy, but the game seems extremely cool, and the components look fantastic.

Okay, is there really a veterinarian dedicated to eyesight? And if so, even more specifically just for dogs?

For animals generally, but yes.

When your dog starts going blind in a very preventable way, you see someone who can help if you have the means.

Ugh, so torn in this. Part of me is tempted to just get the original set, I like the aesthetic better and it has two crews. But I'd probably be playing it one player most of the time so this sounds better...

Argh, so expensive.

I don't know if you have read the latest update, but they are adding ship customization into this one... I know it's pricy but I think this one has a lot going for it over the first game box.

Since I'm now in for a ton of money on this, can anyone (charlest? anybody?) let me know how differentiated the crews are, beyond visually? The big all-in pledge comes with plenty, two full crews, so I'm good, I'm not looking for more. But I was wondering gameplaywise how different the crews are.

You actually have 3 crews, since the 2 big game hunters and 2 of the 'in the line of fire' characters can form a crew. I think the plant creature from the trading post can also be a trader.

The concept of a crew is interesting because characters are packaged together in a crew and each box has their backstory and a new mission or two centered around them.

But when you build your crew to play you can really pick from anyone. The pre-designated crews really seem like a convenience for product packaging, with the added benefit of each crew being roughly balanced.

So the question you're really asking is how different is each character.

The answer is not terribly different. They definitely are as stats can be all over. Some characters have far fewer skill points or their max stats are capped. All of this matters.

But characters don't really have unique special abilities. This means they blend together a bit in the bigger picture.

Classes will really differentiate characters but those are not restricted and a character can be any class.

This is broken though in a couple of instances. The big characters like the Merg dude and the big robot are somewhat unique. This is because the Merg and Machine class ARE restricted. You can't just grab any character and give them the Merg class for instance.

So I ended up buying the crew packs originally based on those big character types. After some time I finally got them all though.

I’m spending so little on games these days... I couldn’t resist going all in on this. My kind of solo play, and the group will enjoy it too (sometime next year, hopefully).
