Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Twilight Imperium 3 vs Nexus Ops

To make this a real contest it should be Ti3 vs a BJ.

Depends on the players. I would play TI3 with my friends, and I would gladly receive a blowjob from Megan Fox, but I wouldn't want to play TI3 with Megan or get a blowjob from my friends.

The argument that TI3 is inferior because it is too long is really not very convincing: you won't hear many Wagner fans say Lohengrin is better than the Ring Cycle because it's got "about 75% of the heroism, romance, and profound beauty and a lot less time and overhead." TI3, like the Ring Cycle, is just so incredibly rich on many levels, that it is hardly diminished by the fact that you can't play all the time; in fact, being an "event game" (like Civilization, Here I Stand, etc.) adds to the experience when it does hit the table, and your decisions become all the more weighty and dramatic because it's likely you won't play the game again for a while.

Even then, I would very rarely prefer a full game of Nexus Ops to a partial game of TI3, which is why this has to be TI3 by a landslide.

While I have never played Nexus Ops - I consider TI:3 to be host to some of the worst gaming sessions I've ever had. The game is praised on its bits alone, and needs to be heavily revised and/or expanded to be workable or interesting.

Therefore, my vote goes to Nexus Ops.

My vote goes for Nexus Ops because I bought it. (Reviews of TI never quite convinced me to buy.)

I'm not entirely sure why this is so since there are various units and a varied bag of objectives.

The various units don't lead to long term playability tho as every player will build every unit every game (unlike Starcraft where you really have to select what path you are building.)
Also the way objectives are handed out it's hard to have long term plans.

These are the reasons why the game begins to quickly feel samey.

I like them both, but TI3 is grander, asymmetric, and EPIC.

VOTE - TI3

I think StarCraft vs. Nexus Ops would be a better fight; the games are more similar. (I vote SC)

vote: TI3.

No contest for me, Nexus is good FOR WHAT IT IS. But it has much bigger flaws than TI3 does.
TI3 is one of the greats. Fuck bitching about the length. And ESPECIALLY fuck the bitching about the fact you can win without combat. I love that aspect, and to me the added push the expansion gave fighting was bit of a mistake. In TI I can blast, trade, tech or politic my way to victory. In Nexus I just go for the monolith every game.

I own and enjoy playing Nexus Ops. While I'm sure I would love TI3, I doubt I would ever get it onto the table with all but one of my gamer friends.

My vote goes to Nexus Ops for accessibility.

Did you play TI3 with the expansion? If not, did you use any optional rules, or make any house rule changes to the Imperial card?

One of the problems with TI3 is that if it's being played by a group of people completely new to the game and they pick the wrong options or house rules out of the gate it can be an awful, awful experience. I'm convinced that's what's behind a lot of the negative feeling about this game - sure it's not for everyone, but I think some of the naysayers might not hate it quite so much if they'd been introduced to it in a different setting.

My vote is TI3, mainly because it represents everything that I love in gaming. If I'm going to have a game day, I'm happy to spend the whole day playing one game.
