Trashdome - Civilizaton VS Mare Nostrum

I completely suck, because I've played neither of the combatants in this week's Trashdome. Maybe if Tresham had published "Civilization, Das Kinderspiel," or something.

I play Civ (actually Advanced Civ) once a year.

I played Mare Nostrum twice: once before the expansion and once with the expansion.

I vote Civ.

No idea what Mare Nostrum is, but it's not Civ therefore it loses.

Never played Mare Nostrum, so I can't comment on that. But Civilization is awesome. When I first played it years ago, it was like no game I'd ever seen.

For anyone who can't get their hands on a copy, the old Advanced Civilization PC game runs nicely with DOSBox.

I want to participate, but I've never played oldschool Civ. Mare Nostrum's trading works, I guess, but it is sort of wonky.

Mare Nostrum has the Kraken, though; what does Civ have? It seems cool, but someone plz give me a little blurb on the game on why it is so awesome. kthnx

I think they're storing outrage for the post-Trashdome argument on why the wrong game won.

More than that...they're waiting to vote after the winner has been determined.

honestly, I haven't really played either. I started a game of Civ when i was in middle school with a copy that my friend's dad had..but we weren't patient enough to bull through the rules. so I dunno. it looks cool...

but Mare nostrum does also, and being able to fit the experience of a big cool game like civ in to a manageable time frame is really the best thing that the Euros have given us. that ability to pare down rules so that things don't bog down and still allow for that same feeling of the game to come through.

so yeah, I'm all about big long games...but so few other people are.

How long is Mare Nostrum + Mythology expansion compared to Civilization?

Haven't played either, but Mare Nostrum looks like more fun to me.
