Pretty sure any street cred I had just vanished.

it seems Pascal and Yann are going on as a duo, check out their FB page . They just recorded a new album and are currently playing some shows in the States.

Alright, I listened to the 'mix cd' this morning while reviewing a bunch of web reports....and it's pretty good!
The sound on most of these bands historically haven't been my thing. However, I've been listening to a lot of Electric Youth, Chrvches, and outrun music in general, so have been warming up to these vibes. Some stand-outs for me were:
sleigh bells
strawberry whiplash
bleachers
the war on drugs (I think this was by absolute favorite. For some reason it sounded like some mash-up of Dylan, The Replacements, and Mark Knopfler. I dug it.)
The jury is still out on the Decemberists and Janelle Monae. Maybe because I've been aware they're critical darlings and I've been trying not to buy in...for some bullshit reason or another.

That's too bad, I dunno how it'll be without flutes

Thanks! Decemberists almost didn't make the cut. I like them okay, and I really like two of their albums, but I think I have enough of them. This particular song I found catchy amid a pretty dull album.
Janelle Monae is well deserving of the hype. Both of her albums are amazing, with her flowing easily between genres, but not in a twee, mannered way. It's a lot of fun and a ton of skill. I like ArchAndroid a lot, but The Electric Lady is just solid gold from end to end.

Doses of Citizen Cope, Dire Straits, Stones, Floyd, Ella, Winehouse, and Sgt. Pepper mixed in. Oh, and Howlin Wolf, Lightning, and Albert King.

Black Violin. New album. And I loved Siouxsie back in the day. They did a great show at the first Lollapalooza.

I'm certain I don't really want to know the answer to this, but what do you picture Pete Ruth listening to?

That's a fun thread idea... describe your fellow FATies by listing bands or musicians you think they'd be into based on their personality around the Fort.
People love to judge others and they especially love to see how others judge them. It would be fascinating.

(i actually like his cousin Earl far better)
Kings of Leon
(When I hear KOL on the radio my immediate emotion is white-hot revulsion)
Daft Punk

Sisqo
(It's because I'm black, isn't it? I hate this guy)
Not even close. Like, so far from reality that I am shocked. Some were right, in fairness.
In order:
Blues (Cray, King(s), Vaughan, Hopkins..)
Punk (Fear, Flag, Kennedys, NOFX)
Jazz (traditional)
Grunge (real: Gruntruck, Soundgarden, AIC, Mother Love Bone, Wallflowers, PJ, Nirvana as opposed to fake: Stone Temple Pilots)
Motown/Real Soul
Ska
Classical Guitar
Rap (only of the east coast gangster variety)
And then everything else
HATES:
Pop: almost all
Polka: Almost all
Country: excluding Bluegrass, which I adore
