I HAVE DECIDED TO REFRAIN FROM BUYING THIS GAME, PLEASE STOP DISCUSSING HOW GREAT THE COMPONENTS ARE AND HOW IT REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE IT'S $115 WORTH OF MATERIAL AND FOR A COMPLETE MINIATURES GAME.

THANK YOU

As to Dreadfleet's components, I'm still not feeling that there isn't much in the box. There are 6 oversize sprues compared to Space Hulk's 4 + 1mini. 200-ish cards and the cloth board. The odd thing is claiming that the board is unwrinkleable. Which means maybe a foam rubber backing.

Total bits are 10 primary, 9 auxiliary, 4 or 5 sea monsters, and about a dozen bits of terrain. That is a complete minis game. And styrene is so much easier to paint and deal with than most of FFGs.

Best of all, GW is actually releasing something new. I think the last time that happened, it was back in the Inquisitor/Warmaster days. (LOTR MIGHT count, but it really seems like a My First Warhammer game.)

Everything you've just said is 100% my feelings on the matter. +1 for "My First Warhammer"...I laughed out loud on that one.

It's a hell of a value, and I'd put it up, sight unseen, against any Star Trek, Runewars...what-have-you. It's a hell of a deal. And it's fucking PRETTY.

I think the map will be made of a thick polyester material. Only thing I can imagine that is unwrinklable without going cotton "wash and wear" material.

As for stuff they could reprint, I'd like to see Man o' War, Lost Patrol, Space Crusade, Ultramarines....the list goes on. Hell, I'd like to see Warhammer Quest most of all. I'd drop 200 on it immediately upon the preorder availability.

MICHAEL - BUY IT. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO. YOU KNOW YOU'LL BE MISSING OUT. FWIW: THE COMPONENTS ARE SPECTACULAR, AND IS DEFINATELY WORTH $115.

THANK YOU

Well, Man O War for starters, sincere we're talking about it on this thread :)

It's a fair point and well made. But still, if they're kicking these things out once every two years then there's four years worth of back material there before starting on anything new.

A revised - and it'd have to be heavily revised - edition of Blood Royale is probably the reprint I've wanted to see the most for the longest time. If there's an old game that would almost certainly benefit from the FFG treatment, that's it. The game contains some concepts that, even now, twenty years after it was first published, remain pretty much unique. I wouldn't play the game in is current state (I own a copy, much played in years past) but there's so much in I that's worth saving in a new framework.

I might point out Dreadfleet to family members and see if anyone bites on the idea of an early Christmas present :) after all, it is a complete miniatures game and it has such great components.

Such great, great components.

Matt, I think that FFG has tried to work on a new version of Blood Royale, but they couldn't tame down the playtime. That might just be hearsay though...

All this talk about rewiving/reviwing/whatever Man O' War seems a bit stupid to me since DREADFLEET seems to be just that. Only difference - apart from number of ships, obviously - seems to be that you don't have a ship template that can get damaged, but instead draw cards which tell you mostly the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, this is great. This game is very high on my wishlist even though I know I'll have to paint it - something I havent tried for the last 12 years or so.

$115 aint bad. Not deal of the century or anything, but I don't think it's unreasonable. If I was in the US or UK I'd probably buy it (fuck the Oz rip-off price though.)
Anyway would manowar be manowar without the ability to buy new ships? Probably not, which is why they didn't call this Manowar. I'd be more worried about the game design than the components, since 3rd edition space hulk shows that almost every choice the current GW design team made was the wrong one.

I haven't been able to get a board game in for months for a myriad of reasons, so it's not easy to justify paying so much for a big box of plastic and cards. That said, I don't think I'm gonna be able to pass this up. Incredibly corny video aside, this looks great. That mechanized kraken mini alone has me sold.

Yeah, mechanized Kraken was the straw that broke my back. I must have told 10 people that day "But it has a mechanized kraken ship!!" as if it were all the reason I needed to spend so much money rather then give it to starving children. All my morality breaks down when you show me cool toys.

Looks like Spartan Games' Dystopian Wars that was linked earlier in the thread has a kraken mech as well...

Tonight The Man comes up behind me, puts his arms around me and whispers in my ear, "It has a mechanized Kraken." Shit. I don't even play miniature games, and now I'm wanting this.

Ha! Doomed.

The reason they're not reviving Man o' War is because MoW requires support. There's a whole minis line involved and multiple races with differing stat lines for each mini, etc., etc. GW has basically confirmed that they're supporting 40K, Fantasy, and LotR and that's it. All of the Specialist Games are done because they just don't have the staff and/or production budget to sustain all of it in addition to the big three. Dreadfleet, OTOH, is a single game with one ship per race. That's easy in comparison. If they were going to support an ancillary game to one of their main three worlds, Battlefleet Gothic or Epic would happen long before anything connected to WHFB, since 40K's universe has always outstripped Fantasy in sales.
