Are you guys seeing this $22,000,000 Kickstarter for secret fantasy novels? That's some serious coinage, even for a famous author.

Not game related, but I was in on the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter last year and the first episode is streaming now!

Via the new Mystery Science Theater app.
It’s a subscription service, not sure if it is available to non-backers yet.

They said they will “launch” in May.
These early live events are using backers as guinea pigs for working out the bugs.

Oh, like they do with board games!

Over $25 million now. Absolute madness. I've read three books by Brandon Sanderson, and they're all the literary equivalent of eating a bowl of plain white rice.

I will say though, the guy is insanely prolific. The dude works his ass off. He just wrote another book in the time it took me to post this message!

Too bad Sanderson can't pass along some of that work ethic to George Martin ....

Sanderson is the guy who wrote the last three books of the Wheel of Time series, because Robert Jordan was seemingly getting paid by the work and milking it for all he could until he died. I agree that Sanderson is bland and would rather see someone else finish Game of Thrones if Martin doesn't have his notes burned at his estate settlement.

i’ve never read him. I recognize some of the titles from Graphic Audio but I haven’t tried any of them.

Holy crap! 15k people paid $500 for four books?! And I thought boardgame kickstarters were nuts.

The higher level categories come with goodie bags for each of the four books, and the book in three different formats (I think it's three) which is kind of odd, seems to me one format should be enough.

God help us if all our favorite authors decide that this is the way you should sell books. We'll have to pay years in advance and have to pay for Game of Thrones funko-pop dolls in order to read them.

Since the trade copy of 51st State I grabbed had everything in it except Moloch I ended up going in for the new faction/expansion. The game seems really good, plus it'll be a better trade/sale later if I have everything and dont end up keeping it. I was ready to be totally fine with just the Master Set, but they got me in the end

51st State is on my "List of 5", five games that each of my buddies and I are pulling together that indicate games we played in the past and somehow feel like we're not done with them. This isn't just a list of games we like that we haven't played in a while. It's more a list of games that we keep coming back to in our minds as somehow tasks that still need to be finished. Games not well explored.

Unfortunately, I think the result will be a list of games that we've all mostly sold or traded away. One of my buds mentioned SpaceCorp which was my copy and it's gone. He really liked it and we never got to do the full soup-to-nuts three part fully play that the game is set up for. So we would need to get a copy back for that one. I fear 51st State is the same way. I haven't asked Stephen if he still has it. It's been years.

I considered opening a "List of 5" thread here as well, but it's so easy for it to slip into your five favorite games that you always want to play. That's not nearly as interesting a conversation for me personally. To give you an idea, I haven't even come up with all five yet. 51st being re-released may make it easier for me to get a good shot at it. I'd be curious to know how much has changed.

They're aren't any changes rules wise from the Master Set to the Ultimate Edition afaik. There were rules changes from the first edition to the Master Set but I'm not familiar with the first edition to tell you what they are.
