Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× Welcome to one of the oldest board game communities on the Internet. That may sound like hyperbole but it really is true.

We are really happy to have you here. Unfortunately, being online we can't bond with you over a game so you'd know right away how happy we are to meet you. For now, you'll just have to take our word for it.

This site has always thrived on lively discussion and spirited but civil debate. We hope that newcomers here will find a welcoming atmosphere where game enthusiasts of all levels of experience and commitment will have something to add to the conversation. You never need to prove your “gamer cred” here. Whether you have been playing board games for a few months or a few decades; whether you have a huge collection or a small one; whether you have been a member here for years or just joined today – your opinion is valued here.

We know that it can be intimidating to jump into a new community and want to assure you that this is NOT the kind of forum where people will tell you that you posted something in the wrong place, or that you should have found an existing thread on the topic, or that you shouldn’t have resurrected an old thread.

So if you find a thread or an article discussion that interests you, whether it is old or new, feel free to jump in. Want to discuss a specific game or board gaming related topic just start a new topic. If you don’t know which forum to put it in, just make your best guess (we really don’t care all that much. It’s easy enough for a moderator to move it or merge it, if necessary).

A good place to get started is by introducing yourself in the “New Members Introduce Yourself” thread (below) or by telling us what you have been playing in the “What BOARD GAME(s) have you been playing?" thread ( therewillbe.games/forum/35-mos-eisley-ca...ave-you-been-playing ).

Have fun, and we look forward to hearing from you.

I love the movie (and the book) Fear and loathing in Las Vegas and Depp's performance in that film is just great. Everytime I see it, I wonder how does Cameron Diaz and Toby McGuire feel about their characters now :)

Mine is from a signature that Jhonen Vasquez did on some random fan's 'Jelly Fist' comic. He's better known for Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, a comic I LOVED as a young'n.

I like bees (taken a beekeeping course, shoved bare mitts into a hive!) and they're the mascot of a trollish internet group I belong to. Rather than have the same 'Fat Bee' clip art avatar for that (locked) message board, I dug around on the internet for a picture of a bee I liked. One of the ways the board funds itself is in exchange for a donation, you can change other people's avatar, so long as it's *mostly* worksafe. The higher up in the organization you are, the more it costs.

Jelly Fist has a very adult, depressing theme, with lots of dark humor. The boy with the 'head full of bees' was later done as a poster, which I really intend to get around and buying sometime...

No kidding?

Yeah. It looked like some sort of military muppet thing....

I had a group of guys I played games with. Lots of different types of games for many years dating back to our dnd days. Around the time that Games Workshop wanted people to log their club IDs and locations on their website was a time we were real big into Warhammer 40K and also around the time that the fight club movie was out and we were training MMA together and so we themed our game club name and logos around fight club stuff and registered it on the Gw web site. It just sort of stuck around as our theme after that. We have T-shirts with fight club stuff on them modified to fit our GW angle and such.

We call our club "Paper St. Products" It's kind of an obscure reference but to just call it "Fight Club" seemed silly. Most people have no clue what the shirts are about, but every once in a while somebody gets it.

Our first shirt had our "Paper St." logo (it looks like a street sign) and underneath " I am jacks games workshop hobby. I use up all of jacks money and piss off jacks wife"

Our newer shirts have "hello my name is" red and white stickers on the front left chest with "find your power animal" on the back with a picture of a Squig.

I started theming my avatars around fight club around then too. Thus the edward norton hugging meatloaf from fight club therapy sessions. The avatar also makes a great asswhipe detector. If somebody comments on it because they just can't bear to look at it or some other whiny lack of humor or homophobic shit I know they have too many damn hangups or can't take a joke and won't last in our gaming group.

Occasionally I use Grimace the purple milkshake stealing muppet monster thing from mcdonalds for no real reason.

I started going by "squigherder" a long long time ago when i quit work to become a stay at home father. I started watching my friends kids for them at various times and I have been collecting orc and goblin models in warhammer since about 1994 so they jokingly started calling me squigherder since I spent all day herding their squigs. And it stuck.

Squigherder - Very cool, Fight Club is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. So many good lines. So many good scenes.

Reminds me of a saying we hve up here in northwest iowa:

I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a brother who is a cornhusker fan.

Welcome to the conference that can't count. As long as you hate Ohio State, we'll get along just fine.

My avatar is the logo of the bar I own in Brooklyn. The image is a take on Mike the Headless Chicken, who got a second chance at life much as my partner and I did through opening the bar. It was a new beginning for both of us and for anyone else who bothered to come through the door, so we thought both the name and the logo appropriate.

What can I say? I like ska and I like Starship Troopers.

Always been a fan of ska and played trumpet in a high school ska band - Skamikaze.

Starship Troopers was really good and I saw it with a friend in the theater. Since then, I've seen the next two installments, but they dont come close to the first in entertainment, campiness, and Doogie Houser. Read the book first and even though this was so different, I wasnt at all disappointed.

At least they try to fix the continuity in the videogame. You're actually an APE.

Man, have there have been some corny names for ska bands. Has anyone ever used 'Skavacados'?

I wanted to do "Oskama Bin Laden and the Taliband" many years ago but it never really got off the ground.
