Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× Welcome to one of the oldest board game communities on the Internet. That may sound like hyperbole but it really is true.

We are really happy to have you here. Unfortunately, being online we can't bond with you over a game so you'd know right away how happy we are to meet you. For now, you'll just have to take our word for it.

This site has always thrived on lively discussion and spirited but civil debate. We hope that newcomers here will find a welcoming atmosphere where game enthusiasts of all levels of experience and commitment will have something to add to the conversation. You never need to prove your “gamer cred” here. Whether you have been playing board games for a few months or a few decades; whether you have a huge collection or a small one; whether you have been a member here for years or just joined today – your opinion is valued here.

We know that it can be intimidating to jump into a new community and want to assure you that this is NOT the kind of forum where people will tell you that you posted something in the wrong place, or that you should have found an existing thread on the topic, or that you shouldn’t have resurrected an old thread.

So if you find a thread or an article discussion that interests you, whether it is old or new, feel free to jump in. Want to discuss a specific game or board gaming related topic just start a new topic. If you don’t know which forum to put it in, just make your best guess (we really don’t care all that much. It’s easy enough for a moderator to move it or merge it, if necessary).

A good place to get started is by introducing yourself in the “New Members Introduce Yourself” thread (below) or by telling us what you have been playing in the “What BOARD GAME(s) have you been playing?" thread ( therewillbe.games/forum/35-mos-eisley-ca...ave-you-been-playing ).

Have fun, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Since I feel more at home here I've changed my avatar to show myself. This was taken at our office Halloween party a couple of years ago.

Great costume! Are you dressed up as someone specific, or just a retro space dude?

Retro space dude. The gals in our office had silver cone bras. SEH-SAY!

My avatar is a metephor for the human condition. It is about the inner struggle for identity in a collective conciousness. It resonates on both a peripheral and subconcious level with equal parts ego and id. It is a statement of self and an affirmation of being.

Perhaps I should go with a porno clown instead.

The story of the picture is that the KLF aka the Justified Ancients of MuMu were a British pop music act of the early 90's intended as a way of subverting the whole industry, spreading underground concepts to the masses. When they realized they were being taken too seriously and that their aims were failing they decided to go out with a bang. Invited to perform their pop-dance hit "3am Eternal" at the Brit Awards, which is just a night of industry insiders being self-congratulatory, to the surprise of the audience they chose to perform a metal version of their hit which culminated in Bill Drummond walking on with a machine gun and firing blanks at the audience (after his initial plan of throwing buckets of sheep's blood over the audience was banned). He threw the gun down in disgust, stormed off stage to the announcement "The KLF has now left the music industry". Later they burned all the money they made. It is one of the all time great moments of artistic expression.

While there are rumours that Bill Drummond was having a mental breakdown, I like to see there act as one of the great moments of true artistic integrity. Few people can say they got rid of all the money they earned because they didn't approve of the way they earned it.

Plus it is hard not to love the aesthetic they convey of underground broadcasts from the resistance in a post-apocalyptic totalitarian society.

Who is the guy in Pat's avatar? And who's the guy in Barney's avatar? Stupid Americans who think they've got culture... At least I recognized Hatchling's Tom Waits avatar. But Waits sucks.

Barney's is Richard Simmons, the fitness guru from the 80's. I only know this because there was a thread about it a while ago (before then I was unsure if it was Simmons or Art Garfunkle).

No idea about Pat's, but everyone keeps talking as though he is well known.

Just admit you nicked it off the Paranoia RPG.

Awesome! But doesn't change the fact that Waits sucks a herd of donkey balls.

I always thought you picked the year the American Revolution ended to hint at your slick rebellious nature.

Say what?

You know I'm a counter-revolutionary, pro-imperialist lackey. Perhaps I should change my avatar to King George III.

Is that how he got his voice so much lower. I need to get me some of those Donkey Balls, I"m not normally a fan but if it gives you the Captain Beefheart/Louis Armstrong/Tom Waits thing I'm down.

If you don't recognize my avatar you can just turn in your F:AT card now. She's Kate Winthrop the Scientist from my favorite game, Arkham Horror. IRL,I work in a molecular genetics lab.

My husband hates my avatar because her hair is too short and she isn't showing any cleavage.

Mine is a picture of me. On the CTA. I forget whether it was the Blue or Red or Brown Line train. I think it was the night we went to a Korean BBQ. That cheap sportcoat covers a T-shirt based on this webcomic .
