Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Arkham Horror VS Dune

Aha! you see! This whole Trashdome, with its pretenses of independence and clarity, is but one cycle in the Dune universe.

This fight walks the way even if it doesn't know the way!

Vote: Arkham Horror

Michael Barnes wrote:

As for the "must have six players" thing- if you can't find five other people willing to play DUNE in your game group, you're in the wrong game group. Move if you have to.

Problem is that we five players consistently and one is always newly recruited every week because the loser of Arkham from the prior week (based on the individual scoring for AH) is sacrificied to Cthulhu at the end of each session.

Cowardice.

When I look around the room here and see the people voting for ARKHAM HORROR, all I see is cowardice.

"I'm afraid I can't buy a copy"
"I'm afraid I won't find anybody to play with"
"I'm afraid my friends won't like me if the game is no fun"
"I'm afraid it's too complex"
"I'm afraid of being called an oldtimer by these Cult of the New devotees"
"I'm afraid of the effort I might have to put forward to play DUNE"
"I'm afraid we'll get two nexuses in the first 30 minutes and the game will end early"
"I'm afraid we won't get a nexus for the first hour and it will go on forever"
"I'm afraid of the sandworm"
"I'm afraid of Sting in the bikini briefs"
"I'm afraid Southernman will kidnap and torture me if I vote DUNE"

Are you voting with fear, or with your heart in this Trashdome? Listen to the Spirit of '06. DUNE is the only candidate in this Trashdome, despite the fact that ARKHAM HORROR is a truly worthy competitor and a great game in its own regard. But not in this league. It's like a really good mayor running against the President of Awesomeness.

F:AT, I call on you to not be a coward. Vote DUNE.

A vote for DUNE is a vote for unpleasant mental images.

VOTE RUNEBOUND.

Is that an overture for the next nexus ;-p

C'mon Junny, you know as well as I do that we Canadians are far too genteel and amiable for such circuit board logic and sock puppetry. It's clearly the American one.

While we're on the subject of Dune, comics genius Paul Pope has posted a one-page experiment illustrating a brief scene from Dune.

Still, vote Arkham Horror!

Au contraire. Sting says: if you vote for Arkham Horror....

I tell you that you suffer from delusions
You pay your analyst to reach the same conclusions
You live your life like a canary in a coalmine
You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line

Therefore, VOTE: DUNE

Dune

For having the more extreme and ballsy implementation of differing player powers in any game, ever.

OPEN LETTER TO ALL WHO ARE VOTING FOR ARKHAM HORROR:

Your future self is wincing in embarrassment at you right now.

Thankfully, nothing is decided.

Stop. Reflect.

It's clear that you prefer Dune just a bit more. It's not worth voting for Arkham Horror if doing so cheapens your worth in your own eyes in the long run.

Follow your true heart. Nothing is greater and more valiant than reversing an injustice to oneself.

vote Arkham Horror

I thought Dune was rather over rated to be honest, supported by the fact that half of the people voting for it havn't even played it.

Hahaha, I also forgot just what a shitty looking game dune was. The artwork was dated upon release. Your 'soliders' were artless round counters. Seriously what the fuck is this, bingo?
And don't give me this bullshit that bits dont matter, because that is crap. Would king kong be a classic nearly 100 years later if the ape was just a sock with button eyes on a stick? Would Predator be such a fucking awesome movie if they used the original rubbery abortion seen on the DVD extras? Sorry, but when I sit down to watch a big budget movie I like to see some great effects, and when I sit down to play a $50+ boardgame I like to use some great bits.
Arkham horror has great gameplay AND magnificent presentation.
Dune costs you 80 clams for scripted gameplay and black bingo counters.
