Fantasy Flight Games to release Battlestar Galactica
New board game released in early Autumn 2008
Roseville, Minnesota (February 6, 2008) – Fantasy Flight Games announced today that they will bereleasing Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, based on the smash hit series produced by Universal Media Studios and broadcast in the United States on the SCI FI Channel.

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game will be a semi-cooperative game, in which players work together to solve problems confronting the fleet, ranging from mechanical to political issues, all the while remaining vigilant for Cylon attacks. However, suspicion clouds the ship and its crew, as one or more players may indeed be a Cylon!The game will be released by FFG in the Autumn of 2008, between the first and second halves of the popular television show's final season.

I have only just started watching BSG, ( I'm up to episode 5) so I'll have to be careful to avoid spoilers in the comments section (Please label them so I don't get mad.) So far it's pretty good - It doesn't have muppets so it's not as cool as Farscape of course, but I'm enjoying it loads more than the overhype fest that was Firefly.
As I don't know what happens in the later seasons of the series I'm not sure what form the boardgame will take - certainly at the point I'm up to the Cylons while a constant threat kind of remain hidden, so a full on Cylon vs Human wargame kind of seems inappropriate, as the show focuses more with the day to day drama of being homeless survivors in a moving fleet. The press release hints that this is the direction it's going in.
I'm also not sure what "Semi-co-operative" means. Does one of the players play the cylons against the humans? Does this have a "hidden traitor" mechanic ala Shadows over camelot, which would be very appropriate?
Another interesting aspect is the timing of it's release, which is to be just before the series finishes for good. Does this mean if FFG miss their deadline as per usual they will miss their biggest sales window?
Well I'll be watching the show with renewed interest now, especially wondering if the blonde chick will get the "Dust" boobjob on the game cover. Feel free to share your thoughts below.

This is the first I have ever heard of the finances of FFG, which is multimillion dollar. But who are the other 9 largest hobby game publishers? I'm assuming Harbro and GW take the top 2 positions, who else is there? Any of the german companies?
