I’ve heard that decent WWI titles are notoriously thin on the ground. Do you have any thoughts on good ones? I recently re-read Pat Mills’ Charley’s War which does a great job of highlighting the insanity and failure of trench warfare and goes some way to explaining why maybe it’s a difficult theatre to simulate in a game.

Depends what you mean by decent. Anyway, my experience is quite limited for now. I'm just piling them up to play some day, a whole new wargame genre for me to explore! I've only played a couple so far. ... I just can't play WW2 or Napoleonics anymore.

Best I've played is Paths of Glory, but my experience is pretty limited.

Recently received the Trash Lords reprint with the Gutter Scum expansion from Craft Fair Games, the theme really screamed to me. Punching fascists? Hell yes. First game was really fun and I hope to do a write up on it here shortly. At the complete other end of the spectrum I also buckled on a second hand deluxe kickstarter edition of Court of the Dead. Its enormous box now sits there menacingly, daring me to open it and find time to set it all up.

I really hope you enjoy Court of the Dead. I absolutely did not. Interested to hear your take.

oof. for the amount of money i threw at it i sincerely hope so too. It'll get a write-up if i find it sufficiently interesting either way.

Out of interest, what was your impression on it? Failure to engage? Clunky mechanisms?

Kitchen sink design in desperate need of an editor. Way too many mechanisms not working in unison. All of the games it draws inspiration from far outclass it.

It certainly has some fans though and you may end up thinking I'm crazy.

I bought a used copy of Marvel Champions a couple of weeks ago and I promptly went out and got the Black Widow expansion. Most of them are pretty hard to get for the time being, but she was definitely on my short list.

The game is pretty awesome. I play it solo or with my 7-year-old, and I especially enjoy how easy it is to set up and get a game going. Also, the flow of the game is straight forward so it feels casual. I've yet to play with all the heroes, but the ones I've tried are very different.

I'm also itching to get Horrified, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Tried the tabletop simulator module yesterday and it seems like a good game. But the module was so slow that it soured the experience somewhat.

In anticipation of a package being sent by my parents to the Philippines, I decided to get into Call of Cthulhu as a second RPG in rotation. I grabbed the Keeper's Rulebook and the Investigator Handbook for myself, though I'm not going to lay hands on them until at least November or December.

I've played the Starter Set with my local group and we really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to digging into the system some more.

i bought Blue Moon City the other day when Asmodee had it for $10 with free shipping. aside from that im not really buying anything these days.

Wow, for ten bucks I would have repurchased that game.

I just bought a copy of Wingspan for $35 that is missing the 5th player cubes and components. Since I only have four game players in my home, and really three I can count on, I consider this a bargain. I realize that at some point it probably comes down to luck, but it still seems like it will be something we'll enjoy. I'm avoiding any strategy articles.
