Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× WELCOME TO TRASHDOME!

This is part of a series of bloody matches to the death. Show support for your favorite game so it will do better in the fight. You can support it by writing why you think its the better game and more importantly by betting (i.e. voting for) it. Please make it clear for when I check the bets later. You have until Friday when I tally the bets and declare the winner. I will reserve my bet for any tie-breakers.

Although you should be familiar with both games, there is no rule that says you have to have played both of them. The only rule in Trashdome is this;

Two games enter! One game leaves!

Trashdome - Arkham Horror VS Dune

Computer trouble, plus the card auctions (five or six cards) done over multiple time zones have slowed it a bit.

And my sympathies go to Mad Dog for trying to work out a final score amongst all this shit.

What is a standard time period to play a PBEM game? Our current game of Titan with relatively experienced players started at the end of July. BSG took 4-5 months. People's real life situations dictates the pace of every game.

I'm not bored of Dune, but I can't speak for the others.

Hell no, I'm not.

Considering how terribly suited the game is to PBEM, I think it's going very well. The credit for that really should go to Paul and Anthony, who've kept it going through the pain-in-the-ass bidding rounds and turn transitions.

Also, if you allow private e-mail communication, it really adds a lot to the treachery/scheming aspect of the game.

The turn transition is really trivial compared to the endless auctions. Those take me about 15 minutes, and that's usually just doublechecking where the little spice tokens belong. Vassal and I have become good friends between this and the Here I Stand game.

If there were one thing I'd change about the PBEM for the next game, it'd be the way the auction runs. Anthony does a good job of cracking the whip, but with players separated by 8 timezones there's almost always a lag going on.

I don't think it's running much slower than any other 6p game would, there's just 6 independent lives to get in the way. Yesterday we powered through most of a round between 8am-1pm PDT, and the emails were flying fast and furious.

My bad. It looked like there was a three month pause to the game, which seems long to me.

Not quite that bad. Anthony, in addition to his "Let's Make A Deal" act, has been posting turn recaps in the PBEM thread. The latest one went up yesterday, and it looks like our average turn is 3-4 weeks. The auction takes a huge chunk of that, both with the bidding and the distribution of cards. If there were an ACTS module or something similar to track cards, it'd really speed things up. I think a GM would probably help that as well, but we've been managing without one.

Dune PBEM is a very different beast than on the table, so don't judge it solely by the way it's been played on F:AT. I still don't have enough of an opinion of both games to vote either way in this Trashdome.

I'd be curious to see how these results skew in terms of age. Any Dune-lovers under 30?

I'm definitely older than 30, and I voted for Arkham Horror. Dune is a very good game, but it just doesn't get much play any more.
